"Astila" Native American Indian Chief by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

JUST SOLD! "Atsila"which means fire in the Cherokee language.
Like their distant cousins the Iroquois, the Cherokee Indians had an even division of power between men and women. Cherokee men were in charge of hunting, war, and diplomacy. Cherokee women were in charge of farming, property, and family. Men made political decisions for the tribe, and women made social decisions for the clans. Chiefs were men, and landowners were women ( I like that). Both genders took part in storytelling, artwork and music, and traditional medicine. Today,Cherokee women can be chiefs also, which makes me smile. I am proud to be part of the Cherokee-Choctaw blood line.
This original oil painting was done on an 11"x14" stretched linen canvas. Thanks for looking. To view more of my work, please visit srcartavenue.blogspot.com
