  I Got This, Ma! by Debbie Cannatella 30"x22" transparent watercolor (38"x30" FR) I hadn't planned on devoting much of these past two years on painting aviary art.  Birds were never my "thing" and I never wanted to turn into an "old bird lady" or be labeled as such. But the glorious thing about living in Corpus Christi is it being an intersection of two major flyways during migration time and I have grown to love bird watching. I happened upon these cattle egrets just after hatching season when hundreds of babies were beginning to fledge... mowhawks and all. This is one of a series of wildlife paintings that will be in a new one-woman solo exhibition "The Natural World" in the Kuchera Gallery at the Art Center of Corpus Christi, Texas for the month of November 2013. BUHO DE ORO by Debbie Cannatella 30"x22" transparent watercolor (38"x30" FR) This golden barn owl was so compelling I had to put it on paper.  I saw him in an exhibit at a Falconer's show in a Renaissance Festival. It was selected by the curator for the invitation cover for my upcoming exhibition. It can be ordered in a limited edition giclee print on my website here .   SENTINEL by Debbie Cannatella 22"x30" transparent watercolor (30"x38" FR) "Hobbs" the great blue heron was an injured bird with a mangled leg that was rehabilitated at the ARC, the Animal Rehabilitation Clinic on Mustang Island here near Corpus Christi. A volunteer worker who helped take care of Hobbs asked me to come do a photo shoot with him so that I could paint a commissioned piece for her. Though Hobbs was rehabbed and released into the wild, he returns every day for a fishy snack, and right on cue, he flew in for a treat. After completing the commission, I had tons of photos of Hobbs left, so he is now featured in a number of my paintings.
