WIP Finished, “Masterpieces to THE MASTER”
Before we get to the finished piece there are the last 3
elements to be introduced.
The first is Michelangelo’s
“Pieta”, 1499 and is 68 ½” x 76 ½”, a life size Christ while Mary, if standing,
would be near 7’ tall. It is a true accomplishment of design and proportion
that makes perfect sense when viewing it.
Michelangelo was 24 years old when he completed this piece and was
immediately proclaimed to be one of the best artists of his time, a statement
that should have been “of all time”.
The next
elements are the blue iris. I chose the iris as it symbolizes eloquence. A blue
iris symbolizes faith and hope. If I were to say anything specific about the
works I chose is that they are elegant and portray both faith and the hope we
have in the central figure, Christ.
The final
element is the Bible and the texts from which the artists drew their
inspiration. I hope that the pieces I have included give a glimpse of the faith
of these men and tell the story of what the Bible is about. The creation of man
in God’s image, our fall into sin and the need for Christ to be crucified on
our behalf, His death and the pain it brought not only to his earthly mother
but His heavenly Father, His defeat of sin and death in His glorious
resurrection and finally our continued struggle to fully believe and trust Him
just as Thomas needed proof. Through faith in and the hope found in Christ we
stand on the Word and pray, even in our pain we can always pray, through our
spirit we can respond to a loving God.
"For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.
To Him be the glory forever. Amen."
Romans 11: 36
