The red back drop was a main part of this painting.  My goal was to show off all the movement of the sunflowers and just how playful they can be.  For balance and expressive color I added the little blue vase and a variety of colors for flow.

The Old Mill Study, Barbara Haviland

I always do that.  I like to change my painting up a bit. It is painted on a hardboard panel that has canvas adhered to it.  I have used this method for years.
