The reference for this landscape was taken from google maps.  I painted it for Bill Guffey's site,  Virtual Paintout .  Exploring and painting through this technique is fun and a good way to warm up when feeling a bit rusty with the subject.

One small ripple in the lake's distance lets you know that some ducks just swam by and you are surrounded by wildlife, not a care in the world. Looking Forward to Tomorrow 20" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Floral Still Life Today is  Day #29 in the 30/30 Paint Challenge I just pulled this canvas off my easel in the studio.  It is abstract, colorful and has thick brushstrokes of paint.  I have a new "thing" with this still life series...I put a "halo" in the composition...actually I decided to go with five of them.  I scratch paint off with a tool, then go in and put a color representing a pedal or part of the arrangement falling off.  I have put in two colors for each halo.  There are five halos in this painting.  The floral arrangement is busy and whimsical...giving this piece a fun and happy feel.  The edges of this canvas are painted, so framing is not necessary.  Contact  Kay  for more information on "Looking Forward to Tomorrow".  Thanks, Kay

Sometimes I feel like painting but do not feel like starting a large piece. These do the trick. I started painting on these tiny canvases when a friend asked for a painting to place next to her dog's urn. Tiny pet portraits have been, by far, my most popular painting. I then started painting other subjects on them These two paintings are created with acrylic paint and gel medium for texture. When purchased, they come with a small easel for display. "Interplay" ©2015 by Niki Gulley  36" x 48" original textured oil painting Flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze. I wanted this scene to be filled with movement and energy, so I incorporated a lot of diagonal and curving shapes in the design to suggest that feeling. Contrasting short staccato strokes against blended passages with my palette knives, also increase that sense of motion. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of walking through the woods on a beautiful fall day, letting your cares slip away and your spirit being invigorated. This one was developed from a smaller plein air sketch.   For those of you who are interested, this will be the subject of some of my workshops this coming year.  I'll post the schedule in November.  I'm on my way to southern Colorado for two weeks of painting.  When I return, I have a workshop in Georgetown, Texas.  Then, the En Plein Air Texas, annual competition in San Angelo. A little over a year ago my sweetheart Elizabeth was manager of the Down Under Bar & Grill at the Stingaree at Crystal Beach. I was fortunate enough to spend lots of time out at Bolivar that summer. The Stingaree Restaurant and marina is a must see whenever you're at Crystal Beach. They've got good food, but what really brings me back are the sights and sounds of the marina. The Miss Kim is always docked just in front of the Down Under (the bar and grill underneath the Stingaree). I've painted her once before at dusk. Here I've tried to capture the incredible reflection she casts at sunset. I worked on this off and on for several days this week and finished this afternoon.
