"Wildfire" 12x12, Oil on Panel by Dawn Waters Baker

"Wildfire" 12x12, Oil on Panel   I've been working on some little 12x12's for entries for the National Weather Biennial. This is one of my entries on wildfires that are caused by lightning. Here in the US during the dry times of the year (particularly in the west and Rockies) fires are started easily because of the drought conditions. The National Park Service states: "As many as 90 percent of wildland fires in the US are caused by humans....results of campfires left unattended, the burning of debris, discarded cigarettes and intentional acts of arson. "Dallas Sky" 26x48, Oil on Canvas, commission by Dawn Waters Baker

"Dallas Sky" 26x48, Oil on Canvas     Just finished this commission yesterday for a wonderful lady.   I always tell people that living in Dallas the sky makes up for the landscape. I still feel that way. The beauty of the colors and blends that you get in the sky down here is so beautiful. Truly God paints His abstract art in the sky.

"The Tempest" 16x20, Oil on Gessobord by Dawn Waters Baker

"The Tempest" 16x20, Oil on Gessobord     I did this painting as a commission for a friend who had gone through some "storms" in her life.   I hope when you see the light and the rain the viewer doesn't only think of the fear or terror of the storm but also of beauty. Storms can bring needed rain to soften and nourish hard places in the earth. They can also change the landscape and move the "immovable" things to different places.   My favorite part to paint is the light. For me, it's hope, it's what brings the beauty and warmth.
