  "Tunnel of Light," Siena, Italy SOLD • 12" x 9" oil painting by Niki Gulley Day 3:   TUSCANY ART TREK - Siena Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams Just Sold!  On the third day of our Tuscany Art Trek, we visited the Medieval hill town of Siena, with its incredible marble Duomo, great people-watching plaza, and interesting alleyways radiating out from the campo with something new to discover around every turn. While some of our group shopped, some photographed and others relaxed on the square, I set up in one of the quiet cobble streets to capture the textures of these ancient walls and mood of this unique city. For dinner that night, we treated ourselves to a delicious home-made Italian meal of pastas, truffles, pecorino cheese and some amazing red wine! A mid-afternoon gelato break! "Flowing with Sunshine," Tuscany ©2014 Niki Gulley 10" x 30" textured oil painting I chose to paint this view of our villa that we stay in during our Tuscany Art Treks, since I'd been admiring it for years. I like how the old stone farmhouse sits high on its hilltop with amazing 360 degree views of the rolling valleys and hill towns. The clouds have been gorgeous every trip we've taken, so I also wanted to convey that beauty in this panorama. Taking a few liberties and adding the sunflowers in place of the pool, "Flowing with Sunshine" is loaded with texture, color and uplifting energy! Notre Dame, Rose Window • 10" x 8" oil painting by Niki Gulley Paris  Art Trek  with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams Last year on our plein air painting and photography workshop that we taught in Paris, we staked out this quiet, picturesque view of Notre Dame along the Siene. Some painters chose to include the whole scene with river, church and boats, while myself and a couple of others selected this tighter view on just the intricate stained glass of the rose window. After painting the whites and grays of the cathedral in the morning light, I decided to have a little fun with the colors in the afternoon – after all we were in the home of French Impressionism! Working with complimentary purples and oranges created vibrant highlights, cool shadows and contrasting colors that cause your eye to dance across the canvas.
