“Blazing a Trail" ©2021 Niki Gulley 36” x 18" textured mixed media painting  on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges Flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze. I wanted this scene to be filled with movement and energy, so I incorporated a lot of diagonal and curving shapes in the design to suggest that feeling. Contrasting short staccato strokes against blended passages with my palette knives, also increase that sense of motion.            "Painted Forest" ©2021 Niki Gulley 18" x 24" textured mixed media painting  on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges I loved this brilliant aspen forest with its bright white aspen trunks slicing through all of the vibrant red and yellow foliage. The patterns of the trees created a sort of rhythm and I focused on the placement of the ivory sentinels, the diagonal purple shadows that they cast and the rustling of the leaves to add to that musical feeling. I hope you, too, can sense the energy and joy of being surrounded by nature as autumn is in full swing.      "Three's Company" ©2021 Niki Gulley 20" x 16" textured oil painting on canvas panel This summer we visited Santa Fe and to escape the heat we ventured up the Santo de Cristo mountains to cool down amongst the beautiful, refreshing aspen trees. In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. Choosing calming greens against a lavender-blue peaceful sky and arranging the aspens so that they meet in the middle, suggests a feeling of togetherness. While organizing the outlying trees and mesmerizing clouds in a circular pattern and using thick, curving brushstrokes, creates a joyful, playful mood.
