"Reflective Radiance" textured oil painting of Monet's Garden by Niki Gulley

SOLD  • "Reflective Radiance" ©2018 Niki Gulley Two 48" x 18" canvases with one 48" x 30" canvas in the middle to form a 48" x 66" triptych Textured oil painting on wrap around canvas Just Sold!  I decided it would be a fun challenge to create an extremely large painting, and I wanted the final piece to be very uplifting, colorful and full of energy. Opting for warm colors and working with extremely thick paint and palette knives, I chose this lily pond reference from our visit to Monet's Gardens in Giverny, France. The grounds were breathtaking and I could actually see his paintings come to life. I was drawn to the energetic flow and yet calming serenity in this view, and I positioned the water lilies and my paint strokes in a curving pattern to add to that mood. The morning light peeking through the distant foliage added to a sense of mystery and promise that I wanted to capture in paint, and share with you that feeling of hope. ...

Just Sold - "Balcony with a View" Palette Knife Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

Day 3, Greece Art Trek:  Santorini SOLD  • 12" x 9" textured oil painting by Niki Gulley On the third day of our Greece Art Trek, we flew to Santorini and gawked at the amazing view from our hotel overlooking the caldera. Our painters set up their easels right there since the scenery was so beautiful, while the photographers toured through town, shooting the white washed architecture and fantastic views of the ocean below. I chose this vantage of the potted succulent set against the vivid blue water and white stucco balcony. With several clouds in the sky, everything had a nice soft light that created subtle shadows, intense colors and a cool breeze, making it such a pleasant day to paint. Taking a little time out to enjoy the view and sample the Greek wines, which are quite tasty! Next summer we will be leading an Art Trek to Paris and Provence, France so if you've always dreamed of painting, photographing and sightseeing during lavender and sunflower sea...

Just Sold! "Purple Perspective" New Lavender Field painting by Niki Gulley

"Purple Perspective," Provence  ©2014 Niki Gulley SOLD • 24" x 12" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas pictured in espresso floater frame This lavender painting was inspired from our trip to Provence last summer, when our timing was perfect and we caught both the lavender and poppies in full bloom! I loved how in this photo that I took, the lavender really draws your eye back into the distance and invites you to walk down the purple rows and enjoy the heavenly aromas. I also liked the contrast in color of the poppies planted at the start of the rows against the violet and how the crimson blooms break up the long vertical format of the canvas. To see more of Gulley's palette knife landscape paintings, check out  NikiGulley.com . To find out more about upcoming Plein Air Painting Workshops and Art Treks, including a trip to Provence this summer and again in 2015, visit nikigulley.com/artreks. E-mail -  Niki Gulley ...

Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop in Paris with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Notre Dame, Rose Window • 10" x 8" oil painting by Niki Gulley Paris  Art Trek  with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams Last year on our plein air painting and photography workshop that we taught in Paris, we staked out this quiet, picturesque view of Notre Dame along the Siene. Some painters chose to include the whole scene with river, church and boats, while myself and a couple of others selected this tighter view on just the intricate stained glass of the rose window. After painting the whites and grays of the cathedral in the morning light, I decided to have a little fun with the colors in the afternoon – after all we were in the home of French Impressionism! Working with complimentary purples and oranges created vibrant highlights, cool shadows and contrasting colors that cause your eye to dance across the canvas. Photo of us painting at Notre Dame taken by one of our budding photographers. If you would like join us on our next  Plein...
