"Smoke on the Mountain" 55x55, Oil on Canvas by Dawn Waters Baker

"Smoke on the Mountain" 55x55, Oil on Canvas This was the mountain range right outside my window every morning at Panther Junction. There are actually three peaks: Pummel (on the left), Wright (on the right) and Panther (not pictured). They looked like wrinkled rugs with patches of browns and grey-greens. During my time at Big Bend National Park I was able to experience some wonderful weather which included mist. I love the way it wraps around the folds and depths of the mountains giving it a sense of mystery and quiet beauty.

"Tendrils" 36x60, Oil on Canvas by Dawn Waters Baker

"Tendrils" 36x60, Oil on Canvas     I love the way clouds curl and thicken in spots and thin in others. I get excited painting back-lit clouds as they either keep the light filtered almost entirely or they thin to where little openings of light can come through. With this painting I wanted the background sky to be a true blue whereas the foreground clouds were grey mixed with blue.    I liked how it looked like tendrils curling in a valley of cloud.  Layers of cloud caused by the movement of the wind.   Oil on Canvas 36x60. Will be available in January at Mary Tomas Gallery  here in Dallas. I have a two-woman show with Mary Tomas called, "Into the Quiet."
