Galveston Crab Coastal Art by Kristine Kainer

Oil 30x10 SOLD It has been a few months since I enjoyed a trip to Galveston (4 hours away), but my precious cargo for the return drive home--20 pounds of live blue crabs--still makes me smile! Though they have gone to the great bay in the sky, they will live on in my art.  Thank you, dear crustaceans! www.kristinekainer.com

Oil on Canvas Panel (Museum Grade) 8x10 Purchase Information I recently returned from a trip to Galveston (4 hours away) with precious cargo: 20 pounds of live blue crabs! Oysters on the Half Shell - Coastal Art by Kristine Kainer

Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas 20 x 20 x 1.375 Purchase Information Here in Texas, we have delicious oysters from the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. These particular ones were from Matagorda Bay. A squirt of lemon and quick dip into cocktail sauce (heavy on the horseradish) make this a welcome appetizer. Like potato chips, though, you can’t eat just one! www.kristinekainer.com www.kristinekainer.blogspot.com

Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs Lazy Susan by Kristine Kainer

Chesapeake Blues Acrylic on Handmade MDF (Furniture Grade) Lazy Susan 14-inch Diameter NFS Yesterday, you saw my oysters on the half shell Lazy Susan which I made for my father's Christmas present.  Today, Mom's gift takes center stage. I grew up along the Eastern Seaboard, thanks to my dad's military service.  Though I now reside in Texas, I am often homesick for the delicious fresh shellfish that was in abundance for most of my life. As a sweet reminder of our time near the Chesapeake Bay, I painted this Lazy Susan for my mom.  (Actually, this was originally for Dad--sorry, Dad!--but I struggled painting all those crustaceans and Christmas loomed.  I switched his subject in order to ship in a timely fashion.) Thus, Mom has the crabs (the Lazy Susan crabs, that is). Commissions welcome! Oysters on the Half Shell Lazy Susan by Kristine Kainer

Oysters on the Half Shell Acrylic on MDF (Furniture Grade) Lazy Susan 14-inch diameter Last year I was commissioned by the wife of the CEO of my husband's company about painting a couple of fruit Lazy Susans.  After much research and occasional hair-pulling (these were new waters for me), I completed the project and was smitten with the results.  Well, my parents were smitten as well.  For Christmas, they each got a coastal-themed Lazy Susan.  Above is the one I did for my dad.  These oysters will never spoil! Lobster Bubble Bath by Texas Coastal Artist Kristine Kainer

Lobster Bubble Bath Copyright Kristine Kainer 2014 9x12 Oil on Gessobord Purchase Information What is more sinfully delectable than a lobster or more relaxing than a bubble bath?  How about the two combined? This painting is a definite departure for me.  Whimsical in nature, it combines my love of lobster (I'm anxiously awaiting our  Lobstergram  delivery next week for my daughter's fifteenth birthday here in land-locked Austin, TX) and the joys of a bubble bath in an old clawfoot tub in our 1928 farmhouse.   Available Paintings:   eBay Etsy Website Fine Art America Prints #texasartist #coastalart #beachart #lobster Kristine Kainer AOT, CFAI, AWA KristineKainer.com Gallery Links: UGallery Framer's Gallery

Oyster Shell with Purple Nacre by Texas Artist Kristine Kainer, Contemporary Coastal Art

© Kristine Kainer 2014 6x6 Oil on Canvas Purchase Information This is a special oyster shell for an obvious reason:  the smooth inner shell (also known as the Mother of Pearl or nacre) is mostly purple.  Nature is full of surprises.  One just needs to pay attention.... Oyster Shell by Contemporary Coastal Artist Kristine Kainer

© Kristine Kainer 2014 6x6 Oil on Canvas Purchase Information As many of you know, I love to eat shellfish, then take the shells home in a doggy bag.  Recently, I was visiting my father in Florida and had the opportunity to dine on the freshest shellfish daily.  Unfortunately, bringing the shells back to his house, then lugging them home on the plane was not an option.  Thank goodness I had my handy dandy iPhone camera at the ready!  Here's to my model, somewhere in Florida.... You will always be remembered!   Available Paintings:   eBay Etsy Website Fine Art America Prints #texasartist #coastalart #beachart #oysters Kristine Kainer AOT, AWA, CFAI KristineKainer.com Gallery Links: UGallery Framer's Gallery

Blue Crab by Kristine Kainer

Oil 10x8 SOLD This gorgeous creature was caught off the waters of Galveston.  We were fortunate enough to be on the docks soon after the catch arrived.  We selected half a bushel, headed to our rented beach cottage, and--with plenty of Old Bay-- had a mouthwatering meal that evening. Commissions welcome. www.kristinekainer.com www.kristinekainer.blogspot.com

Oyster Shell by Kristine Kainer

Oil on Canvas Panel (Museum Grade) 6x6 NFS This painting is a second birthday gift for my dad, Lt. Col. Peter G. Scharf, USMC-Ret.  It is a companion piece to my previous post of a clam shell.  Dad is now enjoying both in his home in Florida.  Happy Birthday once again, Dad! www.kristinekainer.com

Clam Shell by Kristine Kainer

Oil on Canvas Panel 6x6 NFS This clam shell painting is a birthday gift for my amazing father, Lt. Col. Peter G. Scharf, USMC-Ret.  I spent my childhood along the Eastern Seaboard, from North Carolina to Maine.  As a result of our proximity to the Atlantic, shellfish was commonplace in our home.  I fondly remember Dad leaning over the sink, shucking clams and slurping out the delicious meat and juices--as a snack.   Dad eventually taught me how to eat them.  At first, he paid me for each one I managed to "stomach."  After the first or second one though, I quickly realized how delicious they were!  I made some decent money that day....  Happy Birthday, Dad!

Oyster Shell by Kristine Kainer

Oil on Canvas Panel (Museum Grade) 6x6 SOLD Another oyster.  Another delicious meal last month--slathered in cocktail sauce, horseradish (can anyone find "Gold's Horseradish" in their supermarkets?  I MUST HAVE SOME!), and the squirt of a lemon.  Briny goodness.... www.kristinekainer.com www.kristinekainer.blogspot.com

Steamed Clam by Kristine Kainer

Oil on Belgian Linen Panel (museum grade) 6x6 Purchase Information I enjoy painting, then eating, my models.  Let's be honest, though--shellfish should not sit under the lights in an art studio for ANY length of time if the goal is to serve it for dinner (or a snack).  Needless to say, this was painted from a photo I took of the subject--in my kitchen--on my plate, immediately after removing it from the steamer.   Only seconds passed before it was eagerly eaten.  It was scrumptious! www.kristinekainer.com www.kristinekainer.blogspot.com

Oyster on the Half Shell by Kristine Kainer

Oil on Gallery-Wrapped Canvas 12x12 SOLD I had the pleasure of returning to New Orleans during the recent Christmas holidays.  Every day, I had at least one meal consisting of fresh Gulf oysters.  This fine specimen is just one of the many juicy ones I devoured.  (Slurp, slurp.) www.kristinekainer.com www.kristinekainer.blogspot.com

Oyster on the Half Shell by Kristine Kainer

Oil on Belgian Linen Panel (Museum Grade)  6"x6" Purchase Information This little gem of the sea was served to me at The Deckhand, an oyster bar in Round Rock, Texas. Fresh from the waters of Galveston, I had to immortalize its luscious beauty prior to devouring it with a squeeze of lemon and horseradish. The other patrons must have thought I was insane as I took pictures galore before allowing anyone in my family to touch the platter! (My family, of course, knows the routine.) By the way, it was delicious....

Gulf Crab by Kristine Kainer

Oil on gallery-wrapped canvas 24x12 SOLD As an Eastern Seaboard resident, I was well-acquainted with the exquisite blue crabs from the Chesapeake Bay.  Their delectable meat, kissed with Old Bay seasoning and dipped in vinegar is an incomparable eating experience.  Imagine my surprise one year upon visiting a local crab house in Virginia and finding out that the crabs were flown in from Texas! Now a resident of Texas, I dearly miss my Atlantic coast, yet I am grateful for the bounty of the Gulf of Mexico.  Every time I visit Galveston, I pack my personal supply of Old Bay and hit the wharves in search of this culinary treasure.  It's almost like being home again.... www.kristinekainer.com www.kristinekainer.blogspot.com
