Double The Trouble..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Some of you might recognize my boys, this is Pebbles and Bam Bam, the loves of my life! They are from two photos I had and I wanted to place them in water, to try and get a reflection and ACTION image. I made the water up. It was a fun image to paint, and I am pretty pleased with this one. This image is 18" x 24" unframed The substrate is a dark gray Sennelier paper $500 plus S/H Prints of this image are also available through Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/double-the-trouble-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her many techniques . Lake Sam Rayburn Colors..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I have just returned from a fabulous few days at my buddy's lake house on Lake Sam Rayburn in southeast Texas.  Thanks Vicki, for having us all! Wow! The morning and afternoon walks with my puppies were delightful, and the scenery was superb, so expect more beachscapes from me in the future. This one is a long elongated format, a favorite of mine on which to paint.  It is done in pastels on Sennelier paper. 8" x 19.6" unframed. $200 plus S/H Prints are also available through Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/lake-sam-rayburn-colors-rae-andrews.html Rae demonstrates her techniques in all media, and does workshops and classes. Blue Haze Falls..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I am in love with unusual formats on which to paint, this long landscape support is one of my favorites. I admit it can be tricky though. The scene is so stretched the artist has to keep in mind not to make everything explained and focused. My falls area itself is my main area, or at least I hope it is. I welcome comments, just be kind.Ha! This image is 9.6" x 25.6" and is unframed. $450 plus S/H Prints are also available through Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/blue-haze-falls-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae teaches workshops and does demonstrations in all media.  Please contact Rae through this blog or her website: www.raeandrews.com Thanks for visiting..

After The Rain...Pastel Landscape..Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

I have been just edging my way through some old demos half finished, and this one was a test to my 'gentle side' of painting. :)) I usually love bold and dramatic colors as you know,so this high key painting was a discipline for me. I think I like it, and might do more in this vein.  The scene is here in Austin. I was on a walk with the puppies on the greenbelt in Lakeway, and we had just gotten caught in a small rain shower. The colors on the water were so romantic and soft. I knew I would have to paint it. This image is in pastels on sanded paper and is 11.5" x 15.5" (unframed) $150 plus S/H Prints also available at Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/after-the-rain-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her techniques in ACRYLICS, PASTELS, OILS, and WATERCOLORS For more information please contact her at: rae4art@aol.com Please visit my Web Site at: www.y...

Mystery...Abstract Pastel...Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This was a larger painting on Richeson board and I decided to cut it down and make two from it. This is one half. I used a white Richeson board and threw my acrylics onto the surface to float and make shapes. Then I dried it and began to assess the 'damage'. I began with a loose drawing of coconuts and palm fronds, and as the painting progressed it became more and more abstract. I love it when the painting governs the artist, the hard part is not fighting it in the process and having fun with it. This image is 8.75" x 20" unframed $150 plus S/H Prints of this image available at Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/controlpanel/updateartwork.html?artworkid=17162033 Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her techniques in ACRYLICS, PASTELS, OILS, and WATERCOLORS For more information please contact her at: rae4art@aol.com Please visit my Web Site at: www.yessy.com/raeandrews or my Blog Site at: raeandrewsgallery.blogs...

Rainforest Melee..Pastel Abstract...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

I had fun with this one, just allowing the inner child surface with these fun colors. This image is a pastel on Richeson board again.  It measured 8" x 10" $150 plus S/H I am adding the image of the pillow cover and Phone cover as well, which can be purchased through Fine Art America. Prints and all these other items can be purchased at: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/rainforest-melee-rae-andrews.html Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her techniques in ACRYLICS, PASTELS, OILS, and WATERCOLORS For more information please contact her at: rae4art@aol.com Please visit my Web Site at: www.yessy.com/raeandrews or my Blog Site at: raeandrewsgallery.blogspot.com

Whirling Dervish.Semi-Abstract......Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I began this with a pour of watercolor and acrylics on an Ampersand board. At the time of the pour, I had no idea what I wanted to paint, so I decided to just play with the liquid media. When it naturally dried, I began to wade through my photos, and decided to use KOI as my muse having watched and photographed tons of these fish on Maui on my last trip there. I used my pastel pencil to draw the shapes into the painted areas, and then proceeded to overlay my pastels to retrieve the fish. This is a large painting, 24" x 36" and is unframed. I hope you like it.. $500 Plus S/H ( contiguous USA. only). Prints of this image are available at Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/whirling-dervish-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her techniques in ACRYLICS, PASTELS, OILS, and WATERCOLORS For more information please contact her at: rae4art@aol.com Please visit my Web Site at: www.yessy.com/raean...

Dalliance...Abstract...Pastel over Acrylic Inks..Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

Another small abstract..  This one is done with pastels over inks.. I had no idea what this paper was, but I mounted it onto the archival foamcore and away I went. It had no tooth whatsoever, and I am glad I have no more of it. :(( As a result I stuck to small format images. Next time I will wear my glasses when selecting my papers..Ha! The piece is inspired by a visiting dragon fly which comes to my backyard on a regular basis, it's quite stunning shimmering in the sun. This image is for sale at $75.. Free S/H within the contiguous USA. Image size is 4.25" x 7.5" unframed. Prints are available through Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/dalliance-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her techniques in ACRYLICS, PASTELS, OILS, and WATERCOLORS For more information please contact her at: rae4art@aol.com Please visit my Web Site at: www.yessy.com/raeandrews or my Blog Site at: raeandrewsgallery.b...

Rim Light...Landscape..Pastels...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

Call me a romantic, but don't you just love to watch the clouds form especially with an approaching storm? Well I do.. :)) I had no reference with this one, I just 'felt' the clouds and the movement.  Pastels are such a great medium to portray seascapes and skyscapes. One can 'sculpt' the shapes so seductively, it's as though the artist can become one with the image. See I told you I was a romantic.. This image is 12.75" x 20" unframed and is for sale. $295 Plus S/H Prints of this image and more of my art are available at Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/rim-light-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her techniques in ACRYLICS, PASTELS, OILS, and WATERCOLORS For more information please contact her at: rae4art@aol.com Please visit my Web Site at: www.yessy.com/raeandrews or my Blog Site at: raeandrewsgallery.blogspot.com

Churning Waters...Pastel Waterscape...Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Please feel free to go to my personal blog to see the full step by step tutorial of this image. Although the substrate is not a favorite of mine, it was okay to work the mixed media on. I guess I am a little spoiled with the Kitty Wallis surface..  I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. This image is for sale. It is a 9" x 12" pastel on Canson Premier Paper $195 plus S/H Prints are also available at Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/churning-waters-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her techniques in ACRYLICS, PASTELS, OILS, and WATERCOLORS For more information please contact her at: rae4art@aol.com Please visit my Web Site at: www.yessy.com/raeandrews or my Blog Site at: raeandrewsgallery.blogspot.com

Convergence...Landscape...Acrylic...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

Here is another SKY SCAPE done in acrylics on stretched canvas. I am enjoying this genre.. It's fun to mold and sculpt the sky. When I get that in place, I add a very simple landscape area, in this case, a sand bank and mountain area. This one is an 8" x 10" image. $160 plus S/H Prints of this image and more are available at Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/convergence-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her techniques in ACRYLICS, PASTELS, OILS, and WATERCOLORS For more information please contact her at: rae4art@aol.com Please visit my Web Site at: www.yessy.com/raeandrews or my Blog Site at: raeandrewsgallery.blogspot.com

Source...Abstract...Pastel...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

I walk daily with my dogs, and the area I walk is very lovely, full of trees.. I have seen the remnants of a wonderful old tree continually on my walks, it's  really just a stump with exposed roots, but to an artist, it is lovely. To anyone else, probably it's just good firewood. :(( So today I decided to give you all my 'impression' of what I see daily. Of course with my penchant for COLOR and MOVEMENT , you are sure to realize my image is wildly embellished . This is a 5" x 10" pastel on gatorboard (unframed). $150 plus S/H Prints of this image are also available at Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/source-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her techniques in ACRYLICS, PASTELS, OILS, and WATERCOLORS For more information please contact her at: rae4art@aol.com Please visit my Web Site at: www.yessy.com/raeandrews or my Blog Site at: raeandrewsgallery.blogspot.com

Glow......Pastel Landscape..........Texas Artist.......Rae Andrews

This is another pre-tinted textured pastel board .. It originally was a soft creme color, and I tinted parts of it with red/orange liquid acrylics.  The whole board is now covered in pastel, some layers a little thinner than others, to allow the underneath colors to show through. I really love this technique, it keeps my colors different to the dullness of the actual manufactured board colors.  Enjoy...                                                           This image is an 8" x 10"                                                                   $150 Plus S/H                            ...

Beyond The City Limits...Acrylic...Semi Abstract Landscape..Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

This is another small ACRYLIC on a TEXTURED Gatorboard. It is unframed and ready for framing.                                                                                                                                Image size is 10.5"x 11"                                                       $200 Inc. Village Glow...Semi -Abstract....Pastel over Acrylic and Watercolor...Texas Artist ...Rae Andrews

Okay, I am still doing the pastel over acrylics and using watercolor to pull areas together with this image. I used WILD colors with the acrylics to begin this scene. I think most of you know how much I just LOVE color! I love the interaction of the mixed media, and it allows me my vibrant WILD use of color. I think I prefer the ABSTRACT  genre, but thought I would throw this one in for a bit of a break. Hope you all like it. Back to the studio!                                   This image is 5" x 7" on sanded Richeson board.                                                              $100 Plus S/H                                   Prints...

Coastal Interlace....Abstract... Pastel....Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

COASTAL INTERLACE  is a slightly larger abstract image than the previous ones I have posted.  In going to a bigger format, I had to really concentrate on CONNECTION and make the top half of the painting still be a part of the lower areas. The board on which this is painted is a RICHESON sanded board. I had a failed landscape on this and did not want to toss the good board. Another reason for using these VERY FORGIVING surfaces. i am fast falling in love with them. I simply washed it down and scrubbed away with an old brush moving the old pastels around. It did not remove all the landscape, however when it dried, I partially pre - wet again in places, and droozled (love that word) my LIQUID ACRYLICS  over areas..I waited till it dried, some patterns were there for me to enhance, some others I needed to totally make up. I had to gradually cover my surface with pastels. The underneath acrylics just glowed with the pastel overlay. As with all these abstracts, it co...

Netted..Abstract...Watercolor and Liquid Acrylics...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

NETTED   was done a long time ago for an Australian Artist magazine article. The article was a showcase of my art and they wanted a STEP by STEP  demonstration to take up a couple of pages.  I actually loved doing this demo, it was in watercolors and acrylics, and I used the    patterns within the image to augment MOVEMENT.  At the time I painted this, (1999) I was well into DIVISIONAL  backgrounds, as you will see. They still work though, even today and at times, I still use that technique.                            It's great to take a step back in time sometimes, and see what you were producing as an artist. In those days I lived on Maui, so most of my art had a TROPICAL  flavor .                                           .         ...
