Colors of Seabrook by Kay Wyne

Colors of Seabrook 6" x 6" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel Contemporary Landscape/Palette Knife Painting I am working on some seascape/beach/boating paintings in the studio, and with the cold winter weather, I am wishing I was at Seabrook Island---sitting on the beach.  This small plein air painting was all about getting the colors of the beach day.  Part of painting is getting the feeling or the mood of the day on the canvas.  It was a clear, warm day at the beach, and I can remember it well, especially on this cold January day.  I have several beach scenes that are available for purchase.  Contact  ME  for more info.  Thanks, KMW

Tight Bunch by Kay Wyne

Tight Bunch 20" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Still Life Painting I picked up a couple of bunches of hydrangeas at Trader Joe's this week and set up a simple still life.  We were hosting  Karen Blair - contemporary artist from Virginia,  at the studio and this floral arrangement came in handy, as almost all the artists painted it.  I chose not to use any medium on this painting because I wanted a thick painterly look on the canvas.  It will take a long time for the oils to dry!  Here is a close-up: Thanks for taking a peak at this painting.  "Tight Bunch" is drying at the studio, but will be looking for a new home in the near future.  Thanks,  Kay

Sunshine by Kay Wyne

Sunshine 10" x 10" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Rooster Painting I have been experimenting with dark backgrounds, and this rooster pops with such a dramatic contrast.  I named this rooster Sunshine because of all of the colors in his feathers and comb.  He reminds me of a colorful sunny day.  The sides of the canvas are also painted black, so a frame is not necessary.  Contact  Kay  for purchasing info...Sunshine is drying at the studio before he takes off.

George Being George by Kay Wyne

George Being George 12" x 16" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Palette Knife Painting George, was sitting in his cage up at  Gecko Hardware Store in Lake Highlands  when I visited him last week.  He was perched up on a branch, taking in the wonderful fall weather.  I put the chicken wire in the background of this painting...or at least implied it.  He was sitting there, just being George.  Therefore, the title, "George Being George".  I used thick layers of paint, along with the palette knife to  paint this canvas.  The gallery wrap canvas is is painted on the sides, so no frame is needed.  Contact  ME  for more information on this painting...It is drying at the studio.  Thanks for looking....Kay

Layers of Color by Kay Wyne

Layers of Color 20" x 24" Oil on Canvas Contemporary Palette Knife Painting This is Day 10 of the  30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge . Yesterday I got my palette knife out and a larger canvas... which works for me so much better than a small one. I did start this painting with a brush, but decided that the knife would give it some interesting texture.  Contact  Kay  for more information on this painting.  Thanks for viewing... I will be in the studio working on  painting #11 today!  KMW

Peonies, Fruit & Fabric by Kay Wyne

Peonies, Fruit & Fabric 24" x 30" Oil on Canvas This still life is signed and now drying at the studio. There were several challenges in this painting for me... putting in the shadows, the hi lights on the fruit, and nailing down the colors.  I loved the fullness of the peonies  and the large shadow that was cast in this still life.   I used a #12 Filbert on most of the painting and some new paints.  It is always fun to find new materials to paint with.  Thanks for looking at the art posted here.  Contact  Kay Wyne  for purchasing information.  KMW

You Color My World by Kay Wyne

You Color My World 8" x 16" Oil on Cotton Panel This contemporary aspen painting is drying, and I will be getting it framed up. I will probably put a wide silver moulding on it. This color palette that I used has more green in it than I normally like to use. I was very careful not to get a muddy green when I was mixing colors. I wanted a clean and bright yellow-green that looks fresh and makes you think of springtime. I used the palette knife of this one. Thanks for looking at the art on this blog. The Inside Track by Kay Wyne

The Inside Track Oil on Canvas 24" x 30" $900 I finished this painting. Normally I paint odd numbers of objects or subject matter in my paintings, but four horses seemed to work for me on this canvas. I did have some horses in the background at one time, but decided to blurr the background completely. Initially I had the starting stalls in the background with roof and sky painted in, but I changed my plans. The horse with the green blinker on the inside track is in the lead. This painting conveys the energy, excitement, and competitiveness of the horse race. This painting is for sale and is hanging at The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas. Thanks for viewing this blog. Please contact me if you are interested in this painting that is fresh off the easel! Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com .
