Leaves..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I love to challenge myself with design.  This was 'test' painting in readiness for a workshop I did. I don't like to pre-draw images for the most part, and instead let my paints run and fold into each other making interesting designs into which I can 'fit' a subject ... I used Golden Liquid Acrylics with a small squirt bottle to start this one. If one leaves a lot of white and interesting negative shapes, they have a better chance of finding a subject and bring it into focus. I worked with WATERCOLORS to get the leaf shape, and of course, NEGATIVE PAINTING.                                               This is a 7" x 12.5" image (unframed)                                                             ...

Fall Dazzle..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Just finished this one. I worked on Sennelier sanded paper, a rust/tan color. I knew I wanted the contrast of the blues against that complement. This one is mostly made up although I did start with a photo I had of a waterfall.  In Sketch Club, I played  on the Ipad , overlapping some more water and rocks. Painting waterscapes always relaxes me, I love to do them! I hope you like this one. Unframed this image is 13.6" x 17.6" $400 plus S/H Prints are available through Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/fall-dazzle-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of all her varied techniques in all media.  Please contact her through this blog, or her website at:  www.raeandrews.com Thanks for visiting..

Shadow Dance, Alaska...Acrylic...Landscape...Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

A few years ago I was in Alaska, wow! What gorgeous scenery. It's taken me a while to even paint something from that area, it's all just gorgeous. Today I thought I would leave the houses alone from previous images, and just do a landscape. Even the colors are very much softer for me. However, the scene was a mid morning light, and shadows were a lot more seductive.                                    This image is an acrylic on textured board (unframed),                                                                                                     $120 inc. Crown of Courage by Sandra Reeves Cutrer,Wildlife Artist

Crown of Courage- a lion painting by wildlife artist, Sandra Reeves Cutrer. A big boy, painted on a big  (24" x 30" x 1.5") gallery wrapped canvas -all sides painted. According to several research sites, the lion’s mane has often been thought of as extra protection from the neck being attacked by other males, although it seems lions mostly attack each other on the back and hips. Most studies lean toward the size and coloration of the mane serves as a signal to other lions about the male’s fitness, similar to the showiness of the peacock’s tail. And, it seems the females prefer males with darker, thick manes, as they project a bigger and healthier male to mate with. Thanks for looking at my blog.
