I braved muggy weather, stinky fly traps, and mosquitos to paint these, but at least it’s nice to see that my flowers are attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.  I love painting outdoors, even with all of it's obstacles. The Gift of the Tree~ Lenore Hetrick Trees offer to those who love them a message of peace and rest.  They bring the glow of the setting sun as it vanishes in the west.  T hey tell of the years that swiftly pass, with little mark or scar.  I have a dear friend, and collector of my art, that lives in Virginia. We have never met in person, I only know him via Facebook, but I feel like I have known him most of my life. He is a Veteran and a graduate of West Point. He is a wonderful poet and photographer. He posts wonderful pictures of the view from his home. Being from NY, one of the things I loved to eat was the Black and White Cookie.  Now that I live in Texas, it's been hard to find. Occasionally I have found them at the local grocery store, but none beat the ones I had in NYC when I'd visit my dad in Manhattan. I looked for a recipe so I could make them at home, and finally found one that was easy enough to make. They bring back so many good memories from my childhood. I painted from a photo I took in Panna Maria, TX, which happens to be the oldest Polish settlement in the US. This is a smaller version of an 11x14 I did a while back. Medina River from San Jacinto Road, Castroville, TX  It was a beautiful day for painting en plein air. A clear, sunny 66 degrees. It was quiet, no one around, and you can hear nothing but the birds chirping and leaves blowing. This my second plein air painting. I can't wait to do many more.
