Artists Of Texas Contemporary Paintings and Art

While heading out of town one day I was able to stop and take a few photos for future inspiration and these brightly colored trees just stood out demanding to be painted! Why are they irresistible? I’m guessing you might say that their bright, happy, yellowish color up against the dark trees behind them is dramatic. Another thought is that those yellow trees aren’t overpowering, they are just standing strong and stable in the light of the day. I’m drawn to them as they seem to illustrate a quiet, strong sense of purpose. They are different from the others but not in a negative way. They add to their community of trees! (I know, I’m sounding like I think they are people but I think nature can often imitate humans!) So, to sum up my intention for this painting, I wanted to illustrate that “different” can often be “good” and to enjoy our differences! Have fun noticing the similarities and differences that occur that enrich us! We are all created for a purpose! 8"x8" Acrylic...

Oh my, how many times have we thought..."when I get through this then all will be ok"? You'd think after so many years I'd realize that being in transition is the norm. We are all experiencing transitions of one kind or another these days and some are even welcome! As I was looking at this cluster of trees/brush I was inspired to paint it and hoped to show it "In Transition Again". By observing nature, we can watch how the Creator reveals that when it appears all hope is gone new life and new beginnings appear! As the light glowed through the old, dry limbs there was fresh, green growth demanding to be seen! Once again another season of transitions and my faith restored! May we remember that we will get through the seasons and it seems best to do it with the Light revealing the way... 8"x8" Acrylic on Panel-Available Framed or Unframed Click HERE for purchase info.   We can be so busy moving ahead and yearning to reach goals we think need to be met that we forget what is important. My grandfather said to me once, "you don't have to make all the mistakes, lean on the wisdom of others, learn from their mistakes!" I was inspired to create a scene that felt progressive and moving forward, but at the same time revealing a glimpse of a bit of the past, an old building, a previous home or safe place. Sometimes the answers are right where we started and we must not forget that. No matter our beginnings, they are our history, the landscape of our life story! 30"x30"x2" Mixed Media on Canvas/Available Click HERE for purchase info.   I surprised myself when I used these colors to create this painting. I chose more neutral ones to be a backdrop for the sparks of random color peaking through instead of bold color throughout. I wanted to express how I felt when I viewed the remains of an area near my home that had survived a storm and saw new growth. In the middle of the death and sadness of the event I saw new life overcoming adversity and it was a reminder that yes we can go through the storm and there will be new life and a new beginning on the other side. Art can be healing. The title, “Survived”, is one we can all wear as we push through the our storms. 20"x20"x2.0” Mixed Media on Gallery Wrapped Canvas/Available Click HERE for more info.   FRESH OFF THE EASEL "Don't Stop Reaching" seems an appropriate title for this painting. I've painted this scene before and I just love the idea that this cactus has survived so much right here at my home and yet still keeps growing and doesn't give up. It has been neglected and even frozen at times but after all these many years it has grown taller than me and shows no sign of stopping! I have those days when it seems easier to just stop trying to grow, to expand on what I am doing but just looking around I can find inspiration right here in the midst of creation! Enjoy today, get out and look around...inspiration is everywhere and you might just wonder how all this was created! I'm always in awe of the Creator's creations! 6"x6"x/1/8" Acrylic on Panel This painting is available framed or unframed HERE Learn about my weekly art classes   HERE View my upcoming Workshops HERE Sign up for my  Newsletter    HERE Visit https://Holl...

I've been reflecting a bit more lately as I realize I have lived through several "life stages" and am grateful to still be here and enjoying life. I think many of us feel we can't accomplish our daily "to-do list" and we are overwhelmed but maybe rest should be a focus. I look at this painting with its textures and colors swirling and hope that I was successful in having the lighter area be the focus. I wanted to show that in the midst of activity we can rest in the strength of the Light and not be concerned with controlling all we see. Yes, maybe we should look in the mirror and say, "You Can rest Now"! 20"x16"x2" Mixed Media on Canvas/Available Click HERE for purchase info. “Headed For Home” is the title for this painting and this time it seemed to name itself! I occasionally have a painting that not only paints itself (almost) but also has a strong identity. Home means different things but this painting tells the story of our hearts longing to be home, in a place of safety and comfort, a place we can be welcomed. The light is always on and leading us back home no matter where our travels lead. The light shown here represents to me the light of Christ as He leads the way home. I can’t add anymore to that! 24"x24"x2" Mixed Media on Canvas/Available Click HERE for purchase info. Sometimes after I've been painting several hours I step back and am surprised to see an image I didn't purposely paint. In addition to those surprises some paintings seem to paint themselves with little effort. This painting, "The Way Out Is Up" is one of those special paintings. When I stand and stare at it with my eyes fixed on it all of a sudden I feel transported to the middle of a forest. I can hear the birds singing and the breeze gently rustling the leaves as a sense of calm pours over me. I was very surprised at how effortlessly this painting came together with all it's subtle greens and the light from above filtering through. The story behind the title for this painting is this...I get lost very easily and so how do I find my way? I need to look up... In the forest if I was lost and if I had remembered any of my "cub scout mom lessons" I might have a compass with me but otherwise maybe I would look up and search for the sun to get an ide...
