Carnival..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This pastel is on a full sheet of Sennelier La Carte paper.. I like to take my reference to a more abstract interpretation, and this one was so much fun to work with. The palm is in my backyard, and of course, the colors are all made up. 19.5” x 25” ( unframed) Pastel on sanded paper $500 plus S/H This image is also available as a print through my Fine Art America Print Site. Shadow Dance..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Another unframed pastel close focus of eucalyptus leaves. I am loving this process of overlaying an abstraction of colors over the subject. I do this in my app Sketch Club on my IPad. It gets me out of the ‘color doldrums’ and can totally surprise the eye.. This one is a pastel on Sennelier La Cate sanded paper.. It measures 14.5” x 19.4” unframed. $350 plus S/H Prints of this image are also available through Fine Art America. Thanks for visiting.. Rae teaches workshops in pastel and watercolor in Europe and America. Contact her through this blog or via her website for more info.. RaeAndrews.com

Bangalay Corroboree..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I had Aboriginals in mind when I painted this one. in their language, BANGALAY means Eucalyptus Tree and CORROBOREE means an event/ dance..hence the title.. **** I have since discovered that the language can differ regionally (throughout Australia )and for the species of tree .. So BANGALAY might be incorrect in a general sense , but for the sake of this painting I will keep the title as is.. 19.5” x 25” Pastel on Sennelier La Carte Paper $500 plus S/H Prints of this image are also available through Fine Art America.. Old Timer..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I completed this one just now. Still loving these Crescent Boards.. They seem to suit my style of painting. I love these old lamps as well, such great studies for the artist. We used to have one as kids when my Mother and Father took us camping. Such happy memories. This image is 15' x 20' x 0.25"  It is presented unframed $400 plus S/H Prints of this image can be found on my Fine Art America Print Site https://fineartamerica.com/featured/old-timer-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Thanks for visiting.. Chicken Hop..Watercolor..Texas Artist ...Rae Andrews

This watercolor was fun to paint.. I threw a few colors onto a Crescent Watercolor Panel and waited till it dried.  I then referred  to my photos of chickens a roosters, and began to find areas I could place them. My intention was not to be literal, merely lost and found. A surprise so to speak. This original watercolor is presented unframed. 15' x 20' Watercolor on Crescent Watercolor Board $400 plus S/H Prints of this image are also available through my Fine Art America print site. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/chicken-hop-rae-andrews.html Rae teaches in Europe and the United States.. for more info contact her through this blog or via her website  RaeAndrews.com Thanks for visiting..

I hope you agree. 11' x 14' x 0.25' $350 Plus S/H Prints of this image are also available through my Fine Art America print site.. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/the-amber-of-time-rae-andrews.html Thanks for visiting.. Captured Glory..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I just finished this one today.. loving these Crescent Watercolor Boards. I stumbled on them a couple of weeks ago and have not looked back since.  The surface is Cold Pressed, and the panel is a rigid support.. so when framing it, one coul even omit having to use foam core onto which to mount the painting. They come in quite a few sizes too which I like.  Captured Glory is available .. $450 plus S/H 15” x 20” Prints of this image are available through Fine Art America. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/captured-glory-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Thanks for visiting.. Into The Light..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I was watching Game of Thrones one night a few weeks ago and this scene popped up, so I quickly took a snapshot of it.. of course I did embellish the light and the color so my image is quite different to what I actually saw . I used a Crescent Watercolor Board for this one. The image is unframed. 11” x 14” $300 plus S/H Prints of this image are also available through Fine Art America https://fineartamerica.com/featured/into-the-light-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Thanks for visiting... Spanish Portal..Watercolor...Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This watercolor is on a Crescent Watercolor Board. It is presented unframed Spanish Portal 15" x 20" $300 Plus S/H Prints of this image are also available through Fine Art America https://fineartamerica.com/featured/spanish-portal-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true I took photos of this one in stages.. I often get asked how I keep such clean colors.. well I keep a lot of the white paper showing in all my works if I can and no, I don’t use masking fluid (or very rarely). I simply work in stages ..in  SPANISH PORTAL   I worked the foliage first, and embellished the foreground with some pot plants..  here are my progress photos. The pathway behind the gate gets more shadows and foliage on it, and I finish off with a small splatter of paint in the foreground to break the entryway up a little. I find this method of painting a more complicated scene easier to control. Just sorting the painting into section...

Leaves..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I love to challenge myself with design.  This was 'test' painting in readiness for a workshop I did. I don't like to pre-draw images for the most part, and instead let my paints run and fold into each other making interesting designs into which I can 'fit' a subject ... I used Golden Liquid Acrylics with a small squirt bottle to start this one. If one leaves a lot of white and interesting negative shapes, they have a better chance of finding a subject and bring it into focus. I worked with WATERCOLORS to get the leaf shape, and of course, NEGATIVE PAINTING.                                               This is a 7" x 12.5" image (unframed)                                                             ...

A Wandering..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I just finished this one. It's of the river area near my home. I have done several plein air paintings of it. This one however, I painted in the studio today, from my photograph.  Green on green is beautiful in nature, but in a painting, it tends to be a bit much of the same thing for me.   I usually play with complimentary colors, such as the orange/red family and even some blue/mauve colors as small accents amongst the green. I hope you like this one. For me, it was very meditative to paint. This image measures 16" x 20" unframed  $550 plus S/H Prints of this image available through Fine Art America: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/a-wandering-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae paints and teaches in all media.  For more info on her workshops please contact her through this blog or her website raeandrews.com Thanks for visiting..

garden Tranquility..Watercolor..Texas Artist Rae Andrews

As I once again, will be teaching a workshop at this magical venue of Le Vieux Couvent in July of 2019 I decided to repost this image.                                  I love rambling unkempt gardens, don't you? This watercolor shows a part of the lovely garden we will be wandering with my France workshop in July 2019. We are all getting so excited. Journal Entry, Texas 2..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Just finished this journal entry.. a few years ago I was at the banks of the Pedernales River not far from where I live here in Texas. It’s a great spot to paint. Lately we have had an enormous amount of rain and flooding, so this area is a good place to stay away from till the water subsides.  I used an old photo for this journal entry.  It’s in my Stillman and birn 8” x 10” Beta series journal. Thanks for visiting.. Rae teaches workshops in both the USA and Europe.  For more info please contact her through this blog or via her website.. raeandrews.com

Journal Entry, Texas..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I have done this scene before in pastels.  I decided I would like to make it a journal entry as well, this time in watercolor. It’s a scene very dear to my heart, as I pass it almost daily when I walk my puppies.  I did embellish the colors a little, Texas is not that showy with FALL COLORS, so I gave it some help. 😊 The journal is a Stillman Birn ( Beta Series) journal. 8” x 10” and I used both pages for this image. I hope you enjoy these journal entries, more to come soon. Rae teaches in all media. please contact Rae through this blog or her website for more info. Journal Entry, Greece..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Today’s journal entry is of the Greek Islands. I took a cruise around the islands with my dearest artist pals a few years ago, great fun! This image is from the island of Myconos, an island I had been to before, but still remains a favorite of mine. I used my larger 8” x 10” Stillman Birn journal for this one. Journal Entry Southwest France..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This journal entry is of  Saint Cirq Lapopie while I was teaching at Le Vieux Couvent. A fascinating medieval cliffside village 300 feet above the River Lot. We had a wonderful day trip to this village, shopping and meandering through the winding little streets, just full of charming stores and restaurants. I did not manage to paint there, but did take lots of photos which is where this study came from. I will be teaching again at Le Vieux Couvent in July 2019. It’s a wonderful place to stay and expose yourself to the peace and charm of the Southwest France region. Portofino Drift..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Finally finished this one.. Pastel on red Sennelier paper. I am a part of a pastel presentation for Austin Pastel Society on Sunday 28th October  (approx. 3.30-4.30 pm) at Precision Camera in Austin. Please come along if you want to see a fun demonstration by 5 artists. You would be most welcome. We have a silent auction at the end of each work, and the money raised goes into our scholarship fund. This presentation is called a PAINT AROUND where all five artists begin on their own artwork for first ten minutes, then it is passed around to the next artist for them to do another ten minutes pastelling  on it.  The demo lasts one hour with the artwork ending up in front of the original artist, for them to 'tweak' what the other artists have done to their work. Great fun! The above pastel painting is me getting in readiness for this presentation. This image measures 16" x 20" unframed  $500 plus S/H Prints are also available through...
