Spring Blanket | Texas Wildflowers by Rebecca Zook

Art Therapy Post 11 Bluebonnets and Paintbrushes are blooming across the Texas landscape and I'm longing to get out and see them. Here is a taste of the next wave of wildflowers that will appear. Spring Blanket 24" x 18" | Acrylic on Panel Commonly called "Blanket Flowers" or "Indian Blankets" these say Texas to me more than the bluebonnets. Though beautiful, bluebonnets are short-lived and a bit finicky; needing a certain level of rainfall to be at their best. Blanket flowers appear after the bluebonnets and revel in the blistering Texas summer sun. They represent the hardiness of true Texans to me as they cover the rolling hills forming a blanket across the land. Twilight Whisper by Kyle Wood

"Twilight Whisper" by Kyle Wood 14" x 18" Oil on Canvas Here is one of my newer pieces of artwork.  Started the new year off painting something a little different from what I normally have painted in the past.  Recently, I had just completed a commission of a waterfall in morocco, for a client through the Dutch Art Gallery.  So the commission inspired to paint more waterfall scenes.  I also included a small deer under the tree on the left side of painting.  It is very common in nature for deer to be out and about, early in the morning or late in the evening, as this painting suggests.  To see more works of mine, please visit me at:   www.kwoodfineart.com . Thanks and have a blessed day!

Jimmy Longacre_subjective realist landscape paintings_APRIL'S GIFT

This one was rather experimental.   When I saw this cluster of wildflowers, I knew that I had no interest in going for the detail.  The impact, for me, came from color and pattern of the grouping. So, I decided to go after it in a very direct manner.  By the time I was finishing I was having a lot of fun moving lots of paint around with the knife and brush.  Practicing to handle the knife so as not to overwork the paint was very instructive to me on handling the brush as well. Peaceful Pasture by Pamela Blaies

Peaceful Pasture oil on liinen 7" x 5" Every time I visit the farm out near the Hill Country where my mom lives, I am inspired to paint landscapes.  There is so much beauty out in the country. I was captivated by this scene when I saw the way the light hit the fence posts and sparkled on the high grass in the distance.  See the auction for this painting  HERE . Purple Pirouette Larkspur by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

Purple Pirouette Larkspur by Nancy Medina 16X12 Palette Knife/Oil on Archival Panel Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! Purple Pirouette Larkspur was one of my afternoon paint-along lessons for my Rockwall, Texas workshop last week. Every time I see "stock" flowers in the grocer, I grab up bundles and run to the checkout cheering. The color is so intense, so rewarding, and these flowers are so simple in their beauty. It's like finding the perfect designer dress on the 1/2 off rack at Nordstrom's the day before your 20th class reunion. Okay make that your 30th class reunion, and shoes to match! I confess purples push all my buttons, but most of all this lesson for my students was about color temperature. Warm purples and cool purples, next to one another, give a burst of color that is simply gratifying. Color in all its glory, and that's why I pick up the pain...

Summer Plein Air Trip by Pamela Blaies

Wildflowers en Plein Air 5" x 5" oil on panel A group of artist friends and I planned a little painting weekend to coincide with a reception for our exhibit last month in Graham, Texas. I am a little late getting this one photographed and posted. Beautiful wildflowers where everywhere on the trip out there and back. To get this vantage point, I couldn't set up very far from the highway. I like to be a little more "tucked away" while painting. But it was fun anyway and a nice lady from town stopped by to visit and check out my work. It was great to see her later at the reception. I love to share my art and inspiration. "Spanish Daggers", plein air, landscape, oil painting by Texas Contemporary artist Vonnie Kohn

"Spanish Daggers" 9 x 12 Oil on Canvas Panel $150 available "Spanish Daggers" was a term given to the yucca plant in the early days. This was originally intended to be an underpainting for additional layers, but became an impressionist painting as the colors emerged. The story behind this painting lies in the region of Possum Kingdom Lake which endured devastating wildfires last year. The redder trees in the background behind the yucca were burned-out trees that were still standing as ghostly epitaphs. It is amazing to witness the renewal process of Mother Nature. Note the new growth of yellow wildflowers, reinforcing the phrase, "beauty for ashes." If interested in these or other plein air artworks, please contact me at www.vonniekohn.com http://vonniekohn-artist.blogspot.com Thank you for looking!
