"Sparking the Imagination" ©2022 Niki Gulley   36" x 36" textured mixed media on 1.5" gallery wrap canvas with the painting continuing around the edges     With "Sparking the Imagination," I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up into the treetops, mesmerized by the scene overhead.  I've arranged the trunks in a spiral pattern so that you have a sense of laying on the ground, surrounded by woodland, connecting with nature and the heavens above.  Flowing  in an ascending circular pattern, transitioning from spring, summer, winter, fall and back again to spring, reminds us of the cyclical forces of life and what our place can be within it.  If you'd like to see more of my work in person and you're in Columbus, OH this weekend, please stop by my booth at the Columbus Arts Festival: Columbus Arts Festival Columbus, OH Downtown riverfront in the Scioto Mile Booth #M545 on Main St. Fri.   "Sunrise in St. Mark's Square" Venice ©2022 Niki Gulley 12" x 16" textured oil painting I painted this piece on location in Venice during our Art Trek we taught in Venice while their infamous Carnival celebration was taking place. Since St. Mark's Square can get overrun with tourists, we chose to get up with sunrise to enjoy the beauty of the city and the peacefulness of those early morning hours. I love the magical light that comes flooding in from the lagoon and is so distinctive of Venice. Fortunately, I got set up in time to capture the glow from the gas lamps, too, before they went out as daylight approached, adding to the mysterious quality of the plaza. Against a backdrop of the Doge's Palace, a few people stroll across the square and signal the energy of the day that is to come.    “Fracturing Reality” ©2021 Niki Gulley 30” x 30” textured oil painting Abstract realism – the synthesis of abstract and realistic painting. Borrowing abstract influences, such as focusing on color, line, shape and rhythm without a concrete, physical object and combining those concepts with depicting something from reality. When you marry these two genres, you get a new style of art that aims to illicit the emotions behind the subject.  In "Fracturing Reality," I hope you feel rejuvenated as you gaze into nature's wonders and escape into your dreams. *** E-mail  Niki Gulley  for more information on her contemporary landscape paintings.  To see more of my textured nature paintings, visit  nikigulley.com .
