Stretching Out

This man was waiting on a bench in a piazza in a small town in Italy last year. I think he was a tourist, and he looked so relaxed or maybe he was just exhausted from looking in the stores with his wife but I just had to take his photo. See more like this on: www.yessy.com/raeandrews

Rainbow Swirls

I was experimenting with this pastel technique. Having done a few demonstrations recently in acrylics in this same technique, somebody in one of my audiences asked if I would ever do a pastel the same way. So.. this is my attempt at that challenge. It was great fun to do, beginning with a very abstract underpainting, and superimposing the subject over the top. As I love color and movement, this style suits me to a tee..

Finger Lickin' Good

Another pastel from my animal series, this lion was a joy to paint. I took the photo from about 20 feet away and through a lot of bars at the Dallas Zoo. I was able to blow it up and delete the bars through Photoshop, tedious, but it worked out in the end. Mellow Yellow

These two gals were sunning themselves on a ship while on a cruise to Jamaica two years ago. I placed them on the beach for effect. A fun to do picture. See more of these figure studies at: raeandrewsgallery.blogspot.com or www.yessy.com/raeandrews

Boardwalk Babes

All of these women are artists and several of us went to AJIJIC Mexico a few years back. We all painted down there and I had a solo show as well as taught a workshop . I compiled this picture from several photos and made up a bit of it as well. Great fun to do this subject. Buddies

This lovely old man and his dog were sitting in a piazza in Italy while I was over there last year painting. I was more interested in the dog, and decided to just crop the man. It makes ( I think) for a 'surprise' composition. Part of the PEOPLE series by Rae Andrews see more at: raeandrewsgallery.blogspot.com or www.yessy.com/raeandrews
