I painted my first horse portrait several months ago and loved it!  There is just something so beautiful about these animals. This painting was painted on several pieces of wood, which I originally obtained for a different project that didn't work out. I decided to glue the pieces together and create a "canvas."  This wood is recycled. I get them from a fellow artist (he may not call himself that, but what he does with wood is amazing) Doug, of Redeemwood, in Colorado. This is one of several pieces of art I have created using his product. To see more of my work, please visit my website at  www.melissaatorresart.com . Horse 73 Bad Moon Arising    8 x 8 Oil on Board    © +Laurie Pace         Graphics One Design 2014 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Available Paintings by Laurie Pace  Follow me on Facebook           Sign up for my monthly studio newsletter. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most of my small horse  paintings  have sold right away. A few of them get shuffled back to the easel and are restructured and repainted.  Usually those are the absolute best as they have building blocks of creativity over the surface making it all come together.   This is one of those. I was resurfacing the top with blues, mauves and saw a bit of brown pink coming through making a greenish tint with the blues... and from that was immediately born the Moon.  The...

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 Meadow Gaze  9 x 12 inches Oil on Canvas.  Available This started with an acrylic base of left over paint from Tuesday night. It was dry and I began to layer on oils to match the formation of the acrylic and then I began to see the horse standing so silently in the meadow with a ray of light shining on him. What is not to love about painting... the color, the energy and the delight of creating.  Sharing part of my creativity is really sharing the gift that God blessed me with.  I am enjoying these small pieces again and hope one finds its way into your heart. #horsepainting  #lauriepaceart  #contemporaryart Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. With some deep thought and a lot of prayer, I may be not be blogging daily.  I can only believe you get tired of getting my emails daily and seeing either older pieces or old thoughts even at times.  With the job of editor of Visual Language Magazine I stay pretty involved on the computer with many artists daily. I am working this spring to be back in the studio more and bring to you NEW work and new pieces and new ideas for art.  If there is anything you would like to see me paint, please email me by clicking HERE, or going to my website and use the CONTACT ME page .      © G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Summer Winds 40 x 40 inches Oil on Canvas.  Summer Winds was quite a progressive Horse Painting. I began by rotating my canvas on the easel a quarter turn at a time and working the entire canvas with layers of paint. After I covered the entire surface I immediately knew what I saw in the painting. These are not normal palette colors for me, but I was pulled strongly to thinking of summer winds and how when they are strong they feel like they could blow right through you. They become a part of who you are. Same in the painting... the summer winds are not cold, but they move through each horse in the herd with the layers of paint weaving it all together.   This piece is at MIrada Fine Art in Denver. Combing Elements to create a Painting through color and composition. This Monday Lesson is about combing more elements. using color to create movement on the surface of this small canvas, I have no intent of what will be painted here.  I literally am basing the color application on good composition and movement along with balance. This is a small 9 x 12 inch board canvas and I am working the undercoating with acrylics. After the surface is dry, I began to use my finger in more wet acrylic paint and began to push around the surface trying to mold in my mind what I wanted to form on the composition.  As you know I paint a lot of horses so of course that is what came to mind. See if you can line these up to note where I saw the movement to create this piece.  If I looked long enough, I might have flipped the painting and created a floral piece. After securing a horse in mind I use more finger painting to form things up and then it was the palette kni...

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Head Strong   12 x 12 x 2 inches Oil on Canvas.  This is a fun thick canvas with color and paint and energy.  Available and the perfect holiday gift and very affordable. Email me.  This one does not need a frame, it is ready to hang. This was a verse that really spoke to me this morning. Think about it when you read it.   "Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them." 1 John 2:9-11 Laurie Pace A Texas Artist   My Blog          My Website   ...
