8x10 oil on canvas Palette Knife  I wasn't sure I would have a Valentine's Day Post, but I did! I got some tulips yesterday, and worked, or tried to...from the flowers, not a photo.  Every time I looked a the flowers they were opened more, and changing. the small one on the right, just came out looking like a top view, so I made it that way! Thank you for reading my blog, and some of you comment each time. Thank you. It is fun to get feed back.  This is palette knife painting #4.  I sure enjoy the clean up so much more! BUT. How long does it take to dry, I wonder!

"Dreams Revisited" ©2012 Niki Gulley 36" x 48" textured mixed media on wrap around canvas In this painting I wanted to create a dream-like feel using one of my favorite flowers, the poppy, so I chose to paint this landscape at dusk as the sun is starting to set over the distant hills to add to that mood. I love the wildflower masses in the foreground creating waves of color, and the curving shapes adding to the sense of tranquility. "Framed in Wisteria," Giverny, France • 7 " x 5" oil painting by Niki Gulley Day 7 - Art Trek Paris with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams The last few days of our Art Trek, we checked out of our hotel in Paris and headed to the peaceful countryside, near Giverny. The b&b we stayed at was straight out of a storybook, and the grounds themselves looked like an impressionist painting. We loved the setting so much, we stayed right there and painted outside our rooms the last day. Our b&b outside of Giverny. One of our students painting on the last day of our Paris Art Trek, on the grounds of our b&b. *** If you would like to come along on one of our upcoming  Plein Air Painting / Photography Workshops  to  Santa Fe, NM Aug. 12 - 18 (see  nikigulley.com/art-classes ) or   Tuscany, Italy Aug. 31 - Sept. 8   ( visit nikigulley.com/artreks ) , please e-mail  Niki Gulley  for more information. "Spring's Glory, Texas Hill Country" ©2012 Niki Gulley 48" x 30" textured painting on wrap around canvas was inspired by a recent trip to the Texas Hill Country. This spring conditions were perfect, and the bluebonnets were amazing! While we were near Fredericksburg, we took a scenic drive along the Willow City Look and as we approached the top of a hill about half way around, we were greeted by this gorgeous view of the rolling hills and bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush in full bloom. Then, to top it off the sun was setting in the distance casting its golden glow and backlighting the wildflowers. I had to capture the magical moment, enhancing the kaleidoscope of colors in the sky and along the ground. Arranging clouds, the road and rows of bluebonnets in rhythmic sweeping shapes, create a harmonious landscape that flows with light, texture and color, and suggest a feeling of optimism about what's to come. If you're in the Dallas th...

Poppy Passion ©2012 Niki Gulley 18" x 36" • Textured painting on canvas I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. So in Poppy Passion, I combined memories of places I’ve been with intense saturated colors to convey that joy I feel when I come across a gorgeous field of poppies.
