© Ann Hoffpauir Purple Iris   Hello folks.   I have been off the blogging and face book posting for a while due to unforeseen circumstances.   Now that I’m back, I would like for you to view a small painting I’ve done recently. This painting is a watercolor, size 7x5.   The purple bearded iris is one of many type flowers I grow in my yard.   One beautiful characteristic of the bearded iris are the thin velvety petals.   When the iris is back lit, the petals are almost transparent.   These irises have a licorice aroma.   Not only eye candy for an artist, but smells like candy too.   You may purchase this small 7x5 watercolor for $75.00.   It is painted on 300 lb. paper. Thank you for viewing.     http://www.ArtworkbyAnn

Hydrangea by Ann Hoffpauir

Hydrangea is a very beautiful and showy plant when in bloom. Depending on the soil they are growing in, acid or alkaline, the blooms are either pink or blue, or so people say. I do know mine turned pink although I bought plants that had blue blooms at the time. These plants do require more water I think. They have large leaves and they start to droop if not watered enough. Mine bit the dust because of our Texas drought and being away for awhile didn't help at all. The plant I painted, I purchased recently. It is an oil painted on a 6x6 canvas panel. It is available for $75.00. Thank you for viewing. © Ann Hoffpauir

Pink Rose by Ann Hoffpauir

This is a small painting of a single light colored pink rose. Roses are one of my most favorite flowers. They are also the most difficult for me to paint because they are so complex. Roses are a challenge. Therefore I will keep trying to paint them. This floral painting is a size 6x6 oil on canvas panel. The price is $75.00. Thank you for viewing my art. http://www.ArtworkbyAnn.com © Ann Hoffpauir

This painting was done over the weekend. I had gone to a cattle roundup and took tons of photos. It was late spring/early summer, felt mostly like summer. There were cowboys and cowgirls, yep, cowgirls too. It was time to inoculate them and put an insecticidal oil on them. While the cattle were being given their shots these two bulls are off in the background horsing around or I should say, being bullish. I had gotten some interesting shots of these two bulls. They were completely oblivious to all that was going on with the other cattle. That's probably a good thing. Those two fellas are huge. Just goes to show, boys will be boys, not matter what form of life.

Ann Hoffpauir-painting in progress

Here is my last painting session on this piece. I did more of the detail work on the longhorns touching up on the body, faces and horns and leaving the undertone to show through on the underside of the belly, legs and faces. The undertone is thinly applied in the beginning process. By leaving some of the undertone showing I think it brings a glow to the painting. The light areas are applied with thicker paint. The "white" on the longhorns is actually a very pale orange and a pale blue. These colors make the animals appear very white in those areas. Longhorns are majestic looking animals to me. These particular longhorns appear very docile and the sun has warmed them enough that they look sleepy. Kinda like people. At least for me. It's like on a cool crisp day and your outside in a lawn chair enjoying the day and the sun warms you...I get so sleepy. I think that's whats happening to these longhorns. The one on the right looks a little perturbed though, some...
This is my next painting session. I am starting to define the cows more and the midground and foreground. I am still leaving some visible undertones showing. I like having those colors peek through the finished painting. I have added a few white wispy clouds. I think this will be a bright sunny day. I want the viewer to feel the bright sun and its warmth. That the longhorns are in no mood but to lay or stand and bask in it.

Ann Hoffpauir Decanter and Glasses

These were painted in plein air at my daughter's house during the 4th of July weekend. The sunlight on glass is just beautiful. It's a small watercolor while visiting with her and family. I like to take along with me travel size watercolors and a sketch book. Possibilities can and usually do pop up around us. I want to be ready for them with my camera and sketching materials. © Ann Hoffpauir

July 4th Weekend

This little watercolor sketch was done at my daughter's house by her pool. It was a very relaxing time for visiting with family and keeping cool too. With the banana trees it feels like a tropical place to be. I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe 4th of July weekend.
