I found the contrasting colors of the larkspur and sunflowers eye stopping. I applied the paint with a palette knife, creating the texture I was going for. This is in the Texas Hill Country and a location that is well known for it's wildflowers in the Spring time. I enjoy the flowers, but the low river bank is a lure for me. Palo Duro Canyon by Sheri Jones 20 x 24 oil on wood panel I created this from a study I painted at Palo Duro Canyon. This is in the panhandle of Texas outside of Amarillo. Palo Duro Canyon is 120 miles long, up to 20 miles wide, and up to 820 feet deep, making it the United States' second largest canyon. Flat Rock Stream by Sheri Jones 12 x 12 oil on gallery wrapped canvas I painted this in the Paluxy area just outside of Granbury. This section of the road is part of one big flat rock. This makes it easy to work out of the back of your car and not be in danger of passing cars. You can drive up and park anywhere. I like how this stream leads the eye to the distance hills and brightly colored trees. The colorful trees are fading fast and I was happy to be outside painting them. Old Mill by Sheri Jones 10 x 8 oil on Raymar canvas I painted this on a cool November morning. We met at a fellow artist's property on the banks of the Paluxy River. This old mill is on land that has been in her family since the 1800's. This was a working mill that served the county in its heyday. The river rose and a bridge broke loose and took this building down. It has been in that state since. It was great to record this historical site.
