"Pool of Bethseda" 30x30 oil on canvas     I love the way water looks as it is falling down and as it mists.  The word for "Bethseda" means, "mercy." I wanted to show how mercy falls on us and then goes outward (rings).  As we are given mercy then we, in turn, can give mercy to others.

"Grace" 5x7, Oil on Panel   A little study before I start the bigger piece.  I like the way the rings showed up as the water flows down it also flows out.   Colors were: Pthalo Blue, Titanium White, Paynes Grey with a little Cadmium Red.

“Rushing Desires” ©2011 Niki Gulley SOLD • 60” x 36” textured oil on canvas Just Sold! Charging down its stone cut course, torrents of water rush through grey boulders past green and gold bracken. Headlong and unrestrained the waters crash downstream, while above they splash into the airy distance a glowing, hazy tiara of misty sunlight. Thick brushstrokes of radiant oils define the powerful landscape carrying your eye through a complex composition of dynamic diagonals cleaved with the vertical cascade, caressed with a delicate crossing of gold dusted branches. A painting of power and energy balanced by graceful strokes of beauty, I wanted “Rushing Desires” to be about texture, movement, mystery and the cathartic feeling in nature. "Hidden Falls" ©2011 Niki Gulley SOLD • 60" x 36" textured oil on canvas A recently completed commissioned palette knife painting of this tucked away waterfall in Ireland, designed to hang on a a large chocolate-colored living room wall. I love how the flow of the composition turned out with the falls arching downward and the foreground ferns curving upward, how the thick paint strokes suggest the energy in the rushing water, and how the soothing palette is filled with hints of warm tones for unexpected color twists.
