Abiding Love Red Geranium Flower Painting by Nancy Medina Texas Artist

Abiding Love Geraniums by Nancy Medina 16X12 Oil on Archival Panel Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Following an excursion after dark into the yard to cut flowers from my container garden, Abiding Love Geraniums took the place of some uncooperative white lilies. Sometimes a vase argues with me, and sometimes a flower will demand emancipation from the spotlight. That's when the Viva paper towel dipped in a tiny bit of turpenoid comes in handy to wipe the slate clean, and an entirely new painting evolves. After several days of white flowers in red vases, it seems proper to tilt things a bit and paint red flowers in a white-silver vase, don't you think? The studio models take a bow!

Blue Monday Lilies Step by Step by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Blue Monday Lilies by Nancy Medina 10X8 Oil on Archival Panel Purchase Information Free Shipping Through the Holidays! Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Art  I decide what to paint each day as almost the last step before picking up the brush. I mix most of my colors directly on the canvas, with the color reaction occurring when the brush picks up the hue beneath and around where it touches the surface. Visit my art blog today to see this painting step by step, and hear more about how it was created. I intentionally staged some orange on blue in Blue Monday Lilies, can you tell where I did that? You as the artist have the tools to create drama in your paintings, find opportunities in your floral setups to lay brilliant complements atop one another. Lay a stroke of pure color and fight the urge to blend it away. Don't turn down the volume, turn it up. Let your color sing! The studio  models take a bow!

Pansy Parazzi Flower Painting Workshop by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Pansy Paparazzi and Sunflowers 16X20 Oil on Linen Panel Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Pansy Paparazzi and Sunflowers was my class demo this morning, in Day 2 of my 3-day workshop at the Jaycee Parks Center for the Arts. This afternoon in our class paint-along, the ladies created beautiful blue filigree white China sugar bowls. We sacrificed the one remaining white pansy on the pot of blossoms I brought to class from my back yard garden. But it gave itself for a good cause, to be memorialized in oils for all time! (Can you tell I'm still feeling bad about picking that little pansy off the plant?)  Tomorrow I am very excited, I will be painting white hydrangeas, white roses, and holly berries in my NEW RED VASE the Carlos picked up for me today. *sound of trumpets* If this doesn't kick our paintbrushes into holiday gear, nothing will! Except, of course, for a little eggnog.... Stay tuned to my art blog for more class...

Sweet Clementines and Blue Hydrangea Painting by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Sweet Clementines and Blue Hydrangeas by Nancy Medina 18X18 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Sweet Clementines, Blue Hydrangeas and White Roses is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, as I begin work on a new large rose commission. I love the cold weather that has rolled in, and freely admit to being one of those odd people who start playing Christmas music on November 1 and refuse to take down the tree until February. Fortunately, I do have a helper who likes to keep the tree handy, too, but she prefers to pull things off the tree, rather than hang ornaments on it! Visit my art blog today to see my helper in action....

Argyle Acres Iris Farm by Nancy Medina

Argyle Acres Iris Farm 16X20 Oil on Linen Board Available: Daily Painters Gallery nancy@nancymedina.com Nancy Medina Art Blog Nancy Medina Art Web Site Here is my newest iris landscape paintings, Argyle Acres Iris Farm, one of the largest I have painted to date from this farm so close to my home in Flower Mound, Texas. Irises are fun to paint because they each have their own personalities. They're unpredictable and just a little rowdy with their petals, throwing things off in unexpected directions. You can see a photographic tour of the farm on my blog today!

White Lily Solo by Nancy Medina

White Lily Solo 8X10 Oil on Linen Board Available: Daily Painters Gallery nancy@nancymedina.com Nancy Medina Art Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog The fireplace is back in use today here in Dallas, where temperatures dipped down to extra chilly last night. The pugs are all asleep in a pile of paws and whiskers, and all that can be heard in the studio is snoring and happy dog dream noises. This white lily was painted from images I photographed yesterday afternoon after a quick trip to the grocery store. I go for soap, I come home with flowers. I'm not quite sure why, but that always seems to happen. I hope you and your loved ones are bundled up and staying warm this morning, and you are looking forward to the holidays like I am. If you have critters, please bring them inside, where they belong. After all, someone has to keep an eye on the kitchen while you're in the studio painting all day!
