Neptune’s Court..Watermedia..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

NEPTUNE'S COURT began in a recent abstract workshop I took with Mary Ann Beckwith. Lots of paint flying everywhere, textures and creativity. I had just a big sheet of this Yupo (manufactured paper) covered in implied textures, very pretty, but now what? The paint always GLOWS on Yupo, and yes, this is mostly WATERCOLOR with some acrylic GESSO over parts, NO INK is used, although I bet some of you thought I had used INK.. Anyway.... I love a challenge. Pretty as my start was with patterns made by stamping objects or cloth into and over paint, I feel we as artists, should not rely on that alone. It's a trap.. and many artists deem a painting finished before they truly have done much of their own 'pulling together'. The challenge is making A PAINTING out of all of this lusciousness. For days now I have gone back and forth with this, breaking objects into the patterns I made, losing and diminishing the importance of my implied textures, to ...

Shell Fantasy...Watermedia..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

As with so many artists, I have bounced along in my long journey through my art.I work from realism to abstraction, many times, both these genres are apparent in any one piece. I have been looking through my archives and found a few pieces I had not posted before. Some are sold now, hopefully still hanging in client's homes. It's interesting to look back at my older works, some of which I am very embarrassed about now, and the fact that I sold them. :(( In those days, it was just a thrill to have anyone take an interest in my work. It still is, but in my early days of painting I was not that discerning.. Yikes! This piece, (which I liked by the way), was done back in 1990 or earlier I think, It sold the day I did it, and I regret that I did not have a decent photo of it at all. Until my search today through old photos, I had almost forgotten about it. It was a full sheet of watercolor paper. I used watercolor mostly, and some white ink to make the lighter intrigu...

INTENSE by Carol Peterson

"Intense" by Carol Peterson 12" x 9" watermedia $200 This was a demo I did at the West Texas Watercolor Show opening during the First Friday Art Tour May 4th.  This man was a model at a couple sessions of the my life drawing group.  He has a natural intensity to him that radiates from his expressions.  I found his image fascinating.  The paper is some that I stamped, splattered, and finally laid in a tub that was catching poured watercolor. www.carolpetersonart.com
