Glad Day Peonies and a Dallas Arboretum Workshop - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina

Glad Day Peonies by Nancy Medina 20X20 Oil on Deep Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Class Demonstration ~ Dallas Arboretum . My new video Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter . Glad Day Peonies was my class demonstration this morning during my Dallas Arboretum workshop - what a beautiful place to make flowers bloom! Stargazer lilies, glads and peonies were painted today (when you can't decide what to paint, why not paint it all?). I do think the chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles on top added a little something extra to the whole event, but that could just be the choco-holic in me talking. In addition to the outstanding helpers and volunteers at the Arboretum who make every workshop and event there enjoyable, it's such a treat to paint in the most beautiful gardens in North Texas. Next stop, my home state of Missouri and I ge...

Summertime Dreams Hydrangeas and a New France Workshop - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina

Summertime Dreams Pink Hydrangeas by Nancy Medina 20X20 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! . I've had a difficult time tearing myself away from my garden these past few days, but with all this color, can you blame me? My pink and blue hydrangeas are in full bloom, and thanks to the cool weather here in Texas, they may decide to stay at least a few more weeks. While I'm unpacking from my Tennessee workshop (and packing for Houston, Texas, next week!), I had time to open registration yesterday for a new workshop in Southern France. My first France workshop filled up in 2 days, so here's your second chance to enjoy a rose-laced, blue shuttered, sunshine kissed painting dream getaway you really, really deserve! We'll spend 10 days at Le Vieux Couvent in the picturesque Dordog...

I found pink and white peonies, white tulips, big bunches of violet blue hydrangeas, wild English Garden delphiniums and orange gerbera daisies today for my class in Irving, Texas beginning tomorrow morning. I can hardly wait to paint with 15 ladies and one gentleman from Louisiana, Oklahoma, and across Texas! I'm usually plotting and planning months in advance for upcoming workshops, and my new November 14-16 San Diego workshop page got its final polish today. I am trying out a whole new fancy format gadget thingy ma bob. I'm so very proud of myself for figuring out how to use it - take a peek and let me know what you think! Blue Dreams Garden Path - Hydrangeas and Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina

Blue Dreams Garden Path by Nancy Medina 12X12 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas  Purchase Information Check out My New Video Here! Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! Blue Dreams is a new small work in Flower Mound Studio, as drenching rains and lightning pay a visit outside the studio windows. With the new skylight tubes, I have a play of lightning dancing across the walls from above, reflected on the paintings and moving around like electrical currents through the air. There is always an energy that comes with these big Texas thunderstorms, a feeling of excitement. Little Hannah is terrified of storms, so I spent much of the evening carrying her around in my arms, until the worst of the hail, thunder and wind passed us by. I hope these rains are heading to South Texas, the bluebonnets there are in need of a refreshing drink of water! Blue ...

Pink Champagne Daisies and Suceeding as an Artist, Year One - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina

Pink Champagne Daisies by Nancy Medina 12X12 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Check out My New Video Here! Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! What on earth does a full time artist do all day? It's not all sleeping late and watching reality TV. In fact, I cannot remember the last time I watched TV. It has been years since I sat on a couch for more than three minutes. This is not whining, I'm just too excited about what's going on in the studio to sit still for more than three minutes these days! In two weeks, it will be my One Year Anniversary of my Departure From Corporate America. I clocked out. I hopped off the treadmill. I jumped off the cliff into the abyss of hopes and dreams and launched my own business. In the first 6 months, I wondered every single day if I would be able to pay the bills. I lay awak...

Maroon Cascade Peonies 20X16 Oil on Archival Panel Purchase Information Class Demonstration Check out My New Video Here! Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! . Maroon Cascade Peonies was my class demonstration in North Texas, as I pack up supplies for my Florida workshop. I've learned how to juggle supplies between overlapping events and workshops, and always have at least three easels, two sets of traveling paints, and multiple palettes and turp cans all juggling about simultaneously. I've learned an easy way to carry my wet paintings home - I call it the Gallery Wrap Pancake Stack. Read more...

This little sugar jar is one of my favorite studio trinkets, I love it so much as soon as I saw another one for sale, I purchased it so I would always have a backup. This little sugar jar has quite a few frequent flyer miles, it's flown to Tennessee, Missouri and San Diego. I wish it were that easy to fly my little studio helper AnnieBee!

Red Gold Koi Pond Painting and a North Texas Workshop by Nancy Medina

Red Gold Koi Pond by Nancy Medina 24X30 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Check out My New Video Here! Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! . I switched gears a bit today, painting bright orange and red koi, since I had piles of reds from two new dresses this week. As soon as I finished this painting, these little koi went directly into hibernation due to extreme cold in North Texas! It's been a super busy day, with a private lesson, a trip to the shipper to send off nine paintings to new homes, and packing up for my first workshop of the new year starting in North Texas Thursday. Put a little joy in your brush and join me, there are few seats left - I'll save you a donut! Detail from Red Gold Koi Pon d

Red Flamenco Dress Painting by Nancy Medina

Red Flamenco Dress by Nancy Medina 36X24 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Check out My New Video Here! Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! . Red Flamenco Dress is the newest addition to the growing wardrobe of dresses, ballgowns, and party frocks in Flower Mound Studio. I've been perusing all my new fashion sketch books and vintage clothing catalogs lately, looking for inspiration, when lo and behold, I realized I have several ballgowns in my very own closet! I pulled out a floor length black satin, a bedazzled knee length straight-line number, and even some hand embroidered golden little short thing I have never even worn once! My next goal is to purchase some fancier hangers for these models, they really do deserve something better than upscale clear plastic hangers, don't you think? Detail from the ruffly skirt

Cinnamon and Tulle Red Party Dress Painting by Nancy Medina

Cinnamon and Tulle Red Party Dress by Nancy Medina 36X24 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Check out My New Video Here! Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! . Cinnamon and Tulle Red Party Dress is the newest bit of haute couture in Flower Mound Studio this week, as my dress collection expands! My first year of college, the counselors all said to take a variety of courses in everything you are interested in before deciding on a major. Having drawn the female figure and dresses for most of my adolescence, I decided to dip my toe into Fashion Merchandising 101. I loved the field trips to Market in Dallas, seeing the models who towered over we normal folks with their ultra thin, ultra long arms and legs and their clownishly exaggerated makeup for the bright lights and cameras. And the idea of being able to see all those floors and floors of clo...

Coronado Island Cottage Rose Arbor Painting by Nancy Medina

Coronado Island Cottage Rose Arbor by Nancy Medina 16X20 Oil on Archival Panel Purchase Information Check out My New Video Here! Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! . We painted cottages in class today in North Texas, using my plethora of images from Coronado Island in Southern California as our reference material. Besides the amazing bougainvillea, my favorite flowers on this island that has an all year round growing season are the roses, foxglove, and delphinium. I love walking downtown and seeing the locals on their colorful bicycles eating on patios with their pups nearby. What on earth would it be like to be lucky enough to be an island dweller! Ah well, one can dream...

Wake Up Call Sunflowers by Nancy Medina 20X16 Oil on Archival Panel Purchase Information Check out My New Video Here! Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! .  Wake Up Call Sunflowers was my class demonstration this morning in North Texas. We've had a fun class, I get the sense everyone is excited about Christmas coming up, and vacations coming up, and seeing family. The ladies in my group have bonded so quickly and so completely. It amazes me to watch a group of new artists come together and instantly discover they have so much in common. I suppose we are all on the same wavelength, after all! It's a beautiful thing!  The flower models take a bow!

White Rose Rebellion and a North Texas Workshop by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! White rose Rebellion is the newest floral still life in Flower Mound Studio, and the paints, brushes, palette, easel and buckets and buckets of fresh flowers are packed and ready for my final workshop for 2013 which kicks off tomorrow. I enjoyed painting this bouquet so much, laying the hot pink buds near the aqua blue vase created a nice color pop. This is the great new vase I purchased a few weeks ago when my husband and I went furniture shopping. It appears that furniture stores get the first choice on all the best vases! So next time you're in the craft store vase shopping and nothing strikes your fancy, try one of the furniture store chains. You might be really surprised! Detail From: White Rose Rebellion

True Blue Hydrangeas and Sunflowers by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

True Blue Hydrangeas and Sunflowers by Nancy Medina 18X18 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! True Blue is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, as we brace ourselves for the coldest winter since the ill fated Dallas Super Bowl weather of some years ago. The pug helpers have been huddled on their pug-ur-pedic mattresses around the radiant foot heaters all day. I felt absolutely sinful by taking a few hours off from the easel this morning to make another batch of Christmas cookies for our neighbors and friends. I can't remember what it is like to have a few weeks when I am not traveling, packing boxes for workshops to ship across the country, and having a suitcase always in the midst of being filled up. The ice storm, like the flu, has forced me to stop and smell the roses, or rather, smell the holiday cookies baking! Both equally pleasa...

Red Hollyhocks and New Art Videos by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

Red Hollyhock Haven by Nancy Medina 8X10 Oil on Archival Panel Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! . My new introduction video is out (the part where I say howdy), and my first two instructional videos are scheduled for production. Thank you so much to those who have been waiting  patiently for some time. You may recall my first attempts at amateur filming in the studio, the interesting interjection of unfortunate pug noises and the story of Hubby as Director. (Okay married ladies, we all know that was a hazardous role reversal). To make a long story short, if you want a job done right, finished ahead of schedule, and completed on an exacting and professional level, hire a woman!   Click here for my new intro video   Just as a bit of a teaser, here's a taste of things to come. Enjoy and stay tuned here to my art newsletter for the first ...

White Tulip Dreamscape by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

White Tulip Dreamscape  by Nancy Medina 12X47 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! White Tulip Dreamscape is the newest work in the studio today. I love these wide format paintings, they look great over lintels, mantels and flat screen TVs, too! The hubby put up holiday lights and the Christmas tree today while I was in the studio working on a commission. Afterward, I noticed he had put the house lights on the tree, and the tree lights on the house. I doubt the decoration police are going to give us a citation for this, so I refrained from mentioning the slight mixup...  Having the tree up, however, poses a central problem - there are no Christmas cookies in the house yet! Tomorrow's project, snowball cookies. Stay tuned to my art bloggy, I'll share the recipe with you. It's my absolute favorite.

Lava Red Poppies by Floral Artist Nancy Medin

Lava Red Poppies by Nancy Medina 24X48 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! . . Lava Red Poppies was one of three poppy paintings completed in Flower Mound Studio today. I confess we had to make certain sacrifices in order to dedicate such an amount of time to the easel. One sacrifice was failure to throw Studio Director AnnieBee's toy du jour as frequently as her majesty would have preferred. With many apologies and promises to do better tomorrow, I'm hopeful her humble servant will be forgiven shortly. Right after bed-time snack dispensations, I imagine... A big ole poppy painting on the easel!
