Day of the Dead, or Dia de Los  Muertos in Spanish ,   is a  Mexican  holiday which  focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. It begins on October 31 and ends on November 2. Altars  are built which contain the favorite foods and beverages, as well as photos and memorabilia, of the departed.  You will see there are several festivals where the holiday is celebrated. This is my first Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) painting. My inspiration was a photo a friend of mine sent me. She dresses up every year. I used acrylics, glass beads, Mica paints, gel medium, and glitter. This painting has SOLD.  I plan on doing another, and who knows how many more. They seem to be pretty popular. Rockabilly Oil on Cigarette Box 4 inches x 2 inches This a detail of a larger piece, Rockabilly.  It is an old recycled guitar, with one of my sugar skull Marlboro boxes incorporated.  The piece as a whole is 24 inches in height, and around 14 inches across, basically the shape of an acoustic guitar.  www.cfai.co/sunnykaymarler .  I wanted a sugar skull type painting that represents rock and roll and the Rockabilly life style.
