"To the Lowest Place" 48x60, Oil on Canvas by Dawn Waters Baker

"To the Lowest Place" 48x60, Oil on Canvas   This is my final piece before the two woman show at Mary Tomas Gallery in January. I am so grateful that this big painting went so smoothly.   I find myself coming back to these images of rocks and water and find that there is still something there I want to touch on.  The grace, the beauty, the hard against the soft. The way water runs in the lowest crevices and cracks. For me, a metaphor of God's grace spilled into the darkest parts of our humanity.   Used a "quieter" blue this time, Ultramarine Blue with Paynes Grey.  I wanted the white to be the thing that grabbed the viewer.

"Rain on the Hills" 10x10, Oil on Canvas by Dawn Waters Baker

"Rain on the Hills" 10x10, Oil on Canvas     I absolutely love the quiet places of this earth where the hills touch the sky and the rain blankets the ridge line.  It reminds me of renewal, refreshment, hope.   I used Burnt Sienna along with Naples Yellow and Pthalo Blue.  I like the contrasts of hard lines against soft, cool color against warm.
