"Fruit of the Vine" by Texas artist Sandra Reeves Cutrer. This bright and painterly style original work is painted in oils on a  large 24" x 30" x 1.5" gallery wrapped stretched canvas. All sides are painted as a continuation of the background. Big and bold, bright leaves made this work really "pop" for me! I am a wildlife painter, but I enjoy getting out of my box sometimes, painting still life, abstracts, and whatever my heart leads me to paint. This is such a soothing piece to me, with the reddish-orange hues, and lots of shades of greens. I think I'll go pour myself  a glass of wine... Thanks for reading my blog and looking at my work.   "The Pink Tango" is an original oil painting on a  22" x 28" x 0.50" stretched canvas. These two Roseate Spoonbills make their home around the gulf area of southeast Texas. Far off, these birds are sometimes mistaken for pink flamingos. I love their colorful heads and pink, fluffy plumage. The paint seemed to flow on the canvas when I worked this piece. I don't think the photo does this painting justice at all-so much more vibrant in person. Don't they look to be dancing the Tango?  Thanks for viewing my work and reading my blog. Crown of Courage- a lion painting by wildlife artist, Sandra Reeves Cutrer. A big boy, painted on a big  (24" x 30" x 1.5") gallery wrapped canvas -all sides painted. According to several research sites, the lion’s mane has often been thought of as extra protection from the neck being attacked by other males, although it seems lions mostly attack each other on the back and hips. Most studies lean toward the size and coloration of the mane serves as a signal to other lions about the male’s fitness, similar to the showiness of the peacock’s tail. And, it seems the females prefer males with darker, thick manes, as they project a bigger and healthier male to mate with. Thanks for looking at my blog. This big guy is painted in oils. When an admirer saw my painting, she quickly posted me an email that explained how gentle these "giants" can be, although at the moment he started running, you could have fooled me! I took off for higher ground, and our (thankfully) close-by cabin.  She wrote, “ The Watusi is an amazing animal. We have had our bull for about 10 years. His horns are tipped, and is the only breed we know of that sharpens them back up. He is very protective of his new lady love, a red Watusi heifer. It amazes me when I come out with feed, as he waits until she comes up to the trough before he will start eating. A true gentleman. Our neighbor likes it when he bellows, sounding like a male elk's bugling." Maybe I was running for nothing, but he sure didn't look like a gentle giant to me! A Lot of Bull is painted in oils on a 24"x30"x1.5" wrap around canvas, so no need for framing. Please contact me at sandrasart@777.aol.com for pric...

Bright New Day 30"x40"x1.5" Acrylic on Canvas Purchase information This painting symbolizes a new start for me this year. 2011 has been a difficult year due to the illness and death of my beloved mom.  Even though I am already in my mid-60's, it is still difficult to accept the fact that someone who's been there always, is now gone. I'm finally beginning to see the light at the end of the seemingly eternal tunnel of details that need to be wrapped up.  Personal items need to be sorted through, a home needs to be sold and so many countless decisions to be made. But, it's a new year now and a new beginning is in sight. This vibrant, acrylic painting was an experiment with a different way to apply paint to canvas.  I started by squirting fluid acrylics directly to the canvas and then brushing to blend the colors.  While the paint was still liquid, I decided to do some monoprinting using a variety of materials to establish the composition. In the end, I w...

Dancing in the Light 30"x24"x1.5" Acrylic on canvas It took me a while to think of a good title for this abstract painting.  After a great deal of thought, the playful composition reminded me of dancing.  The soft pastel colors are contrasted with the bright reds, purple and blues on the heavily textured canvas.  The canvas is stretched over 1.5" deep heavy duty bars and is ready to hang as soon as it arrives.  The painting continues around the sides so that framing is not needed.
