"Lazarus" 12x12, Oil on Gessobord by Dawn Waters Baker

"Lazarus" 12x12, Oil on Canvas I tried a cooler yellow with this one, "Nickel Titanate Yellow" and I like how it starts with a cooler yellow in the background and comes forward into warmth. I used Cadmium Orange and Cadmium Yellow in the foreground.

"Roots of the Sky" 18x24, Oil on Gessobord by Dawn Waters Baker

"Roots of the Sky" 18x24, Oil on Gessobord     As I was thinking about roots I got this thought that lightning looks like roots from a tree.  I love the play of textures where there is this hard glassy color against the clouds and sheets of rain.  Soft against hard, cool against warm.    I love rain.  I like the smell of it and the feel of it.  My favorite jogs have been in the rain.  I just love what it does to the land and sky.  I know for some it is a fearful time with thunder and lightning and in our part of the world: tornadoes.  I like to think what rain can bring though: abundance, refreshment, growth, and ultimately, hope.
