Green Boot

This is Day 12 of the 30 day Challenge. I love western art. It has always been my favorite. This started out as a pencil drawing, then I painted it with gouache. It is 6x6 and available.  suzy_pal2000@yahoo.com

Lester by Suzy Pal Powell

A couple of years ago, my son called and told me Lester  was coming to shoe his horses and mules, if I wanted pictures. So I grabbed my camera and took off. He is about 30 minutes away. When I got there he was already through and loaded up, and I was so disappointed, so he got his tools out, and posed for me! I took quite a few photos. I have known Lester for a long time, so he didn't seem to mind to help me out! This is done on 300 pound hot press watercolor paper, using transparent watercolors as well as some gouache.  It will be 18x24 framed.

Birds of a Feather

When we were in Wyoming we found this awesome fence covered with black birds. I have done 3 different versions of them just for fun.  The first one was on the iPad, then an ink and tombow sketch, then I did one that has phone book pages glued down and torn off and painted with gouache. The phone book page had an SP and I painted around it saving it for my signature.  I am thinking there may be a watercolor version too!

POPPY DUET by Carol Peterson

"Poppy Duet" by Carol Peterson ( carolmpeterson1@gmail.com ) 15" x 11" watercolor $100   I love poppies because they take on such interesting shapes when their is a slight wind.  Their centers with the black tendrils are so distinctive.  This painting was done with transparent watercolor except for the background.  The background has black gouache with some winsor green added.  I love the contrast between the transparent watercolor and the opaque background. www.carolpetersonart.com

POPPY ELEGANCE by Carol Peterson

"Poppy Elegance" by Carol Peterson ( carolmpeterson1@gmail.com ) 15" x 11" watercolor $100   The poppies were absolutely beautiful this year in our Art Center's garden.  They have a redish-orange color and take on many shapes.  This painting was done with transparent watercolor and then the background was put in with black gouache mixed with winsor green.  The addition of the gouache allows me to lift the color a bit as I did in the bottom right-hand corner.

TEXAS TECH BELL TOWER IV by Carol Peterson

"Texas Tech Bell Tower IV" by Carol Peterson 15" x 11" watercolor and gouache $225.00 unframed   This is the fourth time I have painted this basic image.  This time I made the sky blue which I didn't do in the first three.  I started with a fluid acrylic underpainting and used gouache for the blue in the sky.  Everything else was painted with watercolor.

COLORFUL CANNA by Carol Peterson

"Colorful Canna" by Carol Peterson 15" x 11" watercolor $300 This is a painting of a Cannas bloom from some plants outside our Garden and Art Center.  It was actually a yellow Cannas plant but I liked the pink so much that it became more and more pink as I painted it.  The background is a combination of magenta and black gouache.

RED LILY by Carol Peterson

"Red Lily" by Carol Peterson ( carolpeterson@suddenlink.net ) 11" x 15" watercolor $250.00 I photographed this lily in Northern Minnesota.  I have never seen a lily with ruffled petals before but this red lily had ruffled edges.  I didn't like the underpainting in the background of this flower so I painted gouache over the background.  I like the contrast of the flat gouache against the flower's transparent watercolor.

1940 Buick Special by Suzy 'Pal' Powell

1940 Buick Special 11x14 matted $50.00 I found this old car a few years ago in Lovington, NM.  I took a bunch of photos, close ups, etc. This is mixed media, hot press paper with phone book applied with matt medium, then painted with gouache. It makes a rough texture that is fun to work with.

Montage Restaurant by Suzy 'Pal' Powell

Montage Restaurant  15x22 unframed I finished the Chef, and decided to name it, Montage Restaurant, because in my stash of papers, I found some collage stuff that had been copied.  It was a menu with the name on it!  I added some to the menu, and added the blue on the right.  This is the technique that I learned from Kay Smith, using hot  press paper with phone book pages glued down, then painted with gouache and collage.

AMARYLIS GLOW by Carol Peterson

Amarylis Glow by Carol Peterson 11" x 15" watercolor cpeterson@suddenlink.net SOLD I planted my Christmas Amarylis outside in a pot. It survived it's first winter outside and gave us some wonderful blooms. Unfortunately, it didn't survive the second winter. I did take some wonderful photos the summer it bloomed. The flower is done in transparent watercolor and the background is black gouache with some other colors added.

Texas Wild Flowers by Suzy 'Pal' Powell

Texas Wild Flowers Suzy 'Pal' Powell website: www.suzypal.com Blog www.suzypal.blogspot.com Email suzypal@lyntegar.com I love seeing these little tiny flowers growing in the pastures all along the fence line. We are so dry right now, I haven't seen any kind of wild flowers, but maybe soon! This was done in transparent watercolor first, then I went back over it with gouache.

Corner of Butterscotch & Blue - Melinda Patrick

"Corner of Butterscotch & Blue" gouache on paper © 2011 Melinda Patrick I've been wanting to paint this scene for a long time. I may paint it in acrylic at some point. I consider this to be a study for a future painting. Actually this is Duvall Street in Key West. The palette should have given that away. See more at MelindaPatrick.com and on my blog . Potted Plant - Melinda Patrick

© 2010 Melinda Patrick Potted Plant - gouache on paper, 12" x 10" Contemporary realism, still life I'm having a lot of fun painting in gouache on paper. And even more fun painting still lives. I've had this pot for a lot of years. I believe I got it at a garage sale at least 20 years ago. I used to keep this pot and plant in my office when I had a day job. I had no windows and people were amazed at how great the plant looked. It is artificial but you have to feel it to find that out. Saddle Up
