Hearts Path Orange Tulips of the Dallas Arboretum by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Hearts Path Orange Tulips of the Dallas Arboretum by Nancy Medina 16X12 Textured Palette Knife/ Oil on Archival Panel Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Hearts Path Orange Tulips celebrates the countdown to the Dallas Blooms Festival - the best time of year to visit the gardens of the Dallas Arboretum, when the tulips are in full bloom. The cherry blossoms, azaleas, daffodils, pansies, and dozens of other flowers were just about to burst forth when I visited on Sunday. I wanted to create something loose, bright and very full of color to mark the end of winter. I can hardly wait to visit again in March, with my camera in hand, and my comfy walking shoes on! Join me, and let's have lunch at the tea room. We'll order one of those towers of desserts, while we're at it!

The Orange Door and a Story of Angels Among Us by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

The Orange Door by Nancy Medina 8X10 Oil on Panel Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site The Orange Door is a new small painting in the studio, amidst shipping boxes, new canvases being prepped, and sleeping puggies. This is one of my favorite scenes from Coronado Island, off the coast of San Diego, California, in a sleepy little community that has been unspoiled by urban sprawl and whose residents pride themselves on beautiful cottage gardens. It's a heavenly place to visit, and speaking of which, I heard a story this week that reaffirmed my belief that there are angels among us. Read more....

Today's painting is brought to you by my fresh garden geraniums!

Color Tantrum Purple Glads by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Color Tantrum Purple Glads by Nancy Medina 12X12 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Color Tantrum Purple Glads is the newest daily painting in Flower Mound Studio, a studio that has stood quiet and lonely while I traveled across the country and back, then across the country and back again, all in 2 weeks. The purple glads that I purchased from Central Market *sound of trumpets* before my departure were in full bloom when I returned! So they were stomping their petaled feet and demanding to be painted. It seemed with all the fall color about, purple just needed to have its say.

Crazy Love Red Poppies by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Crazy Love Poppies by Nancy Medina 12X12 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Crazy Love is the song that's been traveling around in my head all day. If I make it the name of my newest painting, maybe it will give me a rest! I remember a song called Crazy Love when I was young, I thought it was by Toto, but when I googled it today to find the lyrics, it's not appearing anywhere. It's enough to make me just a little....crazy!

Red Flame Poppies by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Red Flame Poppies by Nancy Medina 16X20 Oil on Linen Board Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Red Flame Poppies is a new painting in Flower Mound Studio at the end of a very productive day - the hubby finished taping my sunflower DVD and so just a few more edits and it should be ready for distribution! We had to re-shoot the opening segment, since this is the part where my face shows and I actually speak, and let's just say that Take One required a great deal more air brushing and soft lighting. This time I actually wrote what I was going to say instead of trying to wing it, and taped it in big letters to Carlos' chest since he was holding the camera. I think he has earned extra brownie points for re-shooting the opening and letting me tape my speech to his chest, don't you?

Lipstick Red Poppies by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Lipstick Red Poppies 10X10 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site My poppy obsession blossoms as work continues on a large Italian landscape commission - one of those wonderful, lovely assignments where the client has faith in me and cheers me on every step of the way! I've been thinking a lot lately about the balance between my day job as a magazine editor and my night job in the studio as an artist, and my weekend job as an art instructor, and how the balance becomes more precarious with time, and I guard my time in the studio jealously.  If I were single, I would be one of those people who forgets to eat and uses dish soap in the shower because buying shower soap is so far down my list of priorities. I would live on bags of potato chips and M&Ms, and would forget to change my jeans into something without paint spatters on those rare occasions when I went out in public. Are you one of those folk...

Step by Step Citrus Slice Sunflowers by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Citrus Slice Sunflowers and Daisies by Nancy Medina Class Demo, Irving, Texas 24X20 Oil on Linen Board Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site We had another very productive workshop day at the Jaycee Parks Center for the Arts in Irving, Texas, making flowers bloom and super chunk chocolate muffins from Central Market disappear like magic! Visit my art blog today to see these sunflowers created step by step . I admit I get carried away when I paint sunflowers. That's the first step in the healing process of being a sunflower-natic, right? Admitting there could possibly be a few stray beans loose in the stewpot?  I have students this weekend from Arkansas, Louisiana, and Missouri - it was like a potpourri of neighboring statehood visitors! Tomorrow is the last of the 3 days workshop so stay tuned to my bloggy - who knows what will bloom next? Put a little joy in your brush and join me for a flower painting workshop!

Island Rose Cottage  by Nancy Medina 12X12 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Island Rose Cottage is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, and is based on the garden homes of Coronado Island just off the coast of San Diego, California. Each year during the Flower Show the folks at Art and Frame by Wood Gallery host my solo show on Orange Avenue, and before the show I love spending about an hour capturing on film my favorite homes in the morning light. This home was located at the end of Orange Avenue, not too far from the Coronado Flower Lady green umbrella on the square.  Someday I hope to be able to visit long enough to paint these homes plein air! Join me for my new workshops!  . Click here to read about painting with me in Memphis, Tennessee, and in Fredericksburg, Texas in the fall - put a little joy in your brush and let's make flowers bloom in brilliant color tog...

Hill Country Roses and Sunflowers and a Hill Country Workshop by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Hill Country Sunflowers and Roses by Nancy Medina Fredericksburg, Texas, class demo 16X20 Oil on Linen Board Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Hill Country Sunflowers and Roses was my demo painting for my students during my Texas Hill Country workshop this past weekend. The Fredericksburg, Texas grocery store always has a top notch selection of flowers, so we painted quite a variety of blossoms from the studio school on the resort overlooking log cabins and trees for miles around. It was like a slice of heaven right outside the door! My next workshop is on July 21 in Dallas and is already full with a waiting list, so it looks like I'll have to make the sacrifice and go shopping at Central Market *sound of harps* for scads of gorgeous blossoms again this week!  Take a peek at my art blog to see a preview of my newest container garden which is almost finished. I thought it only fitting you should also see the li...
