Sunday Best

Sunday Best and Burlap Boot. I am till preparing for the upcoming workshop in Midland TX next week.  I got a photo of a pair of boots as they were being made in San Angelo, TX at Letty's Boot Company. They let us walk around in the back and take pictures while they were working on all their boots.  It was awesome to see how they worked. The burlap Boot was an experiment, trying to come up with a fast-er demo. I bought the burlap canvas with the white paint on it. and I left it plain.   Sunday Best Burlap Boot

Bow Ties

I have been working the last couple of days on this new piece. I am trying to get some new work before my workshops coming up. Midland Texas March 8-10 and here at my studio April 29-30. This was from a photo I took somewhere. I really think i got it in NY. This is 8"x16" torn paper collage.

Get Your Spring Fix

I started this last Friday at the Lubbock Arts Festival, and worked on it all day Friday, Saturday and half a day Sunday.  It took me all morning to finish it up. I haven't done the sides or the varnish yet. I take the photo before varnishing. We are so ready for Spring flowers, and warm weather, I thought this was a good name! It is 18x24 and is available.

Collage Demo by Suzy Pal Powell

We lucked out last night and had half way decent weather to drive to Portales.  It is 100 miles.  We saw a fire on the way, just inside NM. I didn't get a very good photo, but you can see what could burn! Most of the ranchers have sold their cattle, it is so dry here..heading into a 4 year drought. The demo went ok I guess. There is no way you can do a collage in 30-45 mins. but you can explain how you work, etc.  This demo was taking failed watercolors and collaging them.  The music scene on the bottom corner was one of those. as well as the white flower I worked on. The music is below. It was just so blah and there didn't seem to be much I could do with it.  I think the collaged one worked out much better. Has more excitement.  I left some of the watercolor showing.  The bottom right is all watercolor, and some of the piano keys are left.     The Purple top left corner was collage/watercolor and one of the ladies ...

Time to Party by Suzy Pal Powell

The summer that Keri and I got hung up in Memphis due to a weather delay, we went down to Beale Street.  We had Bar-b-q on the patio...THEN, we were scared to death by a zombie march! We had never seen anything like it! What a shock to be eating and all this start marching by. We went into some little shops and I found this wall hanging and took a photo of it. I painted it a while ago and didn't like it so In preparation for a demo, I got it out, and collaged part of it.  I left the bottom below the instruments just watercolor and some of the piano keys. It will have to be framed because it is on watercolor paper. I will go ahead and put it under plexi too.  I am doing a demo in Portales NM Monday the 17th. If you are close, come for a visit! I am teaching a 2 day workshop here in Plains March 28-29, if interested email me.

Legends by Leada Wood, Contemporary Artist Of Texas

Legends by Leada Wood © www.leadawood.com   or www.leadawood.com/blog This is a 12X12 torn paper collage on a deep cradle canvas...no need for framing as the painting wraps around. The Meek's children's hospital in Abilene holds a special place in my heart, as my grandson Carter was one of the poster kids a couple of years back. It is not a place you want one of your loved ones to be in but I am very thankful for their care, concern and ability to heal. We have been donating to their cause for many years as a business. This year I had the opportunity to donate a work of art to their auction at Hendrick's Hospital. Hendrick's Hospital sponsors a Legends Dove Hunt the first of September every year to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network. I decided to do a torn paper collage in honor of the dove hunt with a map of Abilene in the background and various paper from the Legend's brochure . Their is absolutely no paint on this painting...ju...

Kenneth Powell by Suzy 'Pal' Powell

Kenneth was in the 31st NCR (Naval Construction Regiment) Seabee Band, during the Viet Nam era. he went in November 1966 and got out in March 1970. He got out 9 months early because the war was winding down.  He played at many many parades, including the Rose Parade, and played for Bob Hope, and many other celebrities.  He was stationed in Port Hueneme, California, and I got to be with him the whole time.  We were very blessed.  He traveled a lot...they went to Hawaii three times, Wyoming, Washington, Oregon, etc.  Their main job though, was to play for the battalions leaving for Viet Nam, and the battalions coming home from Viet Nam. He let me go with him a couple of times when an airplane was coming in, but he never let me go for the departures. It was very depressing for him.  To go and play 'Anchors Away' (Aweigh is in some songs) and see them leave, knowing some wouldn't be back. I am very proud of the time he spent honoring those soldie...

I wanted to see if I could do the glass 'look'. I think the black and yellow/orange really works well together. Next week I am flying to Tyler, TX to teach a 2 day workshop. I know it will be such fun. Am looking forward to it.

Flower Girl by Carol Peterson

Flower Girl by Carol Peterson ( carolpeterson@suddenlink.net ) 12 x 12 cradled canvas torn paper collage $150 This is the second collage I did in Grace Lipp's recent workshop .  I changed her a bit from this photo - toned down the right cheek, emphasized the mouth a bit more, curved her eyebrows, etc.  When I started I wasn't sure if the image would be a male or female but it became more feminine as I went.  I wanted curly hair and couldn't find the images I wanted so I used flowers.  Now her hair looks like a hat.  It was fun to see how the image evolved.
