LILIES began with a watercolor throw in. Loose and with no pre-conceived notion of my subject at all. After the colors all dried, I found I could work flowers into them. What a surprise..lol! I think FLORALS are possibly the easiest subject for me to go with using this abstract throw in of wet media. I had this photo of lilies from years ago and decided, with a few moderations, to let it guide me through this painting. The substrate is UArt paper mounted onto acid free foamcore. This image is 18" x 12" unframed  $280 Plus S/H Prints also available through Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/lilies-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her techniques in ACRYLICS, PASTELS, OILS, and WATERCOLORS For more information please contact her at: rae4art@aol.com Please visit my Web Site at: www.yessy.com/raeandrews or my Blog Site at: raeandrewsgallery.blogspot.com

I have been just edging my way through some old demos half finished, and this one was a test to my 'gentle side' of painting. :)) I usually love bold and dramatic colors as you know,so this high key painting was a discipline for me. I think I like it, and might do more in this vein.  The scene is here in Austin. I was on a walk with the puppies on the greenbelt in Lakeway, and we had just gotten caught in a small rain shower. The colors on the water were so romantic and soft. I knew I would have to paint it. This image is in pastels on sanded paper and is 11.5" x 15.5" (unframed) $150 plus S/H Prints also available at Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/after-the-rain-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her techniques in ACRYLICS, PASTELS, OILS, and WATERCOLORS For more information please contact her at: rae4art@aol.com Please visit my Web Site at: www.y...

This was taken at the  Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin. They have a wonderful Japanese garden there I love to visit! Another small abstract..  This one is done with pastels over inks.. I had no idea what this paper was, but I mounted it onto the archival foamcore and away I went. It had no tooth whatsoever, and I am glad I have no more of it. :(( As a result I stuck to small format images. Next time I will wear my glasses when selecting my papers..Ha! The piece is inspired by a visiting dragon fly which comes to my backyard on a regular basis, it's quite stunning shimmering in the sun. This image is for sale at $75.. "The Frolicking Lily Ballet’" © 2014 Amy Hillenbrand 24 x 30 oil on canvas $1400.00 When it was time to name my piece,  I saw playful Ballerinas; all very much alive and bouncy, which in turn made me think of the word Frolicking.   As I look at this happy flower painting I see dancers. Note the dancer laying across the others diagonally (like they do in the old 30's and 40's Holly wood musicals.) Anyway a little wacky, but that is what I see in my strange yet colorful imagination.  Let the Ballet begin! To see more colorful flower paintings please go check out my website.
