A Day In Saguaro by Kay Wyne

A Day In Saguaro 12" x 24" Oil on Canvas Contemporary Landscape This Arizona desert landscape is framed up and now hangs in our home.  The location is Saguaro National Park East.  The rough landscape of the desert was fun to paint once I had my underpainting in.  I used a palette knife on the mountains, cactus and shrubs.  Thanks for looking at this blog.   Kay

Persuasion by Kay Wyne

Persuasion II 24" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Palette Knife Painting Here are the two canvases together: Persuasion I & Persuasion II Diptych 48" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Using a palette knife to apply the layers of oil paints, this abstract was created with color and movement in mind.  The shapes of color overlap each other, and the oils blended into each other.  Greys, violets, magenta, pinks, corals, greens, and tangerine are the colors in this contemporary abstract.  The colors float across the canvas.  The paintings can be hung separately, or as a diptych.  Contact  Kay Wyne  for purchasing information.  Thanks, KMW

Vortex Abstract by Kay Wyne

Vortex Abstract Diptych - Vortex I and II 40" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Palette Knife Painting These two canvases started out as a landscape, but ended up with the energy and movement of a vortex.  (According to my studio mates.)  This was a painting that ended up going in a different direction once I got into it.  I had put my darks in first, and went over-board, and after letting it sit on my easel for several weeks, I painted out the darks, and scraped some of the dark greens and grey out.  My favorite colors in this are the cad oranges mixed with the pinky beiges.  There is a hint of turqoise under the layers of greens. The blues and grey are beautiful...I mixed and mixed piles of them and layered them on with the palette knife.  There is a lot of depth and texture.  It is drying at the studio.  Contact  Kay Wyne  for more information on this diptych.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

Untitled Landscape by Kay Wyne

Landscape Untitled 14" x 14" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Abstract I have been exploring and experimenting with some abstract landscapes at the studio.  I wanted to paint a simple, but interesting landscape with a winding road and a few wildflowers.  Sometimes simplifying is the best way to go on the canvas.  More of these small 14" x 14" pieces are in the works.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

Missed The Boat by Kay Wyne

Missed The Boat 12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel Palette Knife Painting Seascape Painting #28 for the 30-30 Challenge I got into the studio yesterday and pulled out a 12" x 12" panel and a couple of palette knives to paint this dingy.  I found this dinghy washed up on the shore in Maine last fall, and thought it had so much character...it was aged with rust and I loved the rocks in the water.  Only two more days of painting for the Painting Challenge....you might want to visit  Slices of Life by Leslie Saeta  blog to see all of the paintings.  Thanks for looking at this blog....I will be in the studio working on #29 today! kay@kwyne.com KMW

I discovered some wonderful greys....and a wide range of reds with this little painting.  I used the palette knife and added some impasto for body.  Thanks for looking at this blog and the art posted here.  I have to work on #13 today...we are almost to the half-way point in the challenge and I am looking forward to getting over that hump!  Happy Painting....KMW

Twisted by Kay Wyne

Twisted 24" x 20" Oil on Linen Gallery Wrap Palette Knife Painting Image looking up in the sky with the wind whipping around, trees blowing and a storm coming in. That is what I imagined when I painted this contemporary abstract. I blended the colors in the background, using wide brushes. The leaves and trees were laid in with thick layers so that there is texture on the linen. I purposely left some of the natural linen showing because I love that color. Contact Kay for more information on this painting......kay@kwyne.com or 214-532-0325. Thanks for looking.....

Lost and Found by Kay Wyne

Lost and Found This is a unique piece of art...one of a kind, you might say. The above photograph shows the finshed painting after I gave this old dresser mirror frame an over-haul. About two years ago I was was walking in our neighborhood, and in front of the Holtzman's house was this old shabby "thing" on the sidewalk....It was neat, but in very bad shape. Water damage, weathered and in bad shape...see below the pictures of this sad, sad frame. I knew it had potential --- for what, I wasn't sure. About a year ago we were moving some things around in the studio and I found this frame that I had stashed away, so I cleaned it up, had a piece of masonite put in it, and gessoed it. Then it sat around for three or four more months until I was in the mood to paint on it. It is pretty tall, and of course has some curves and shapes to it. I painted the aspens out onto the outside of the frame at the bottom. Once I knew what I wanted to paint, it was easy....It took me a whi...
