Spirit of the Race 30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Equine Painting Day # 11 in Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge True confessions:  I did not paint this painting this week for the Paint Challenge.....I came up short today for a new painting because the heat went out in the studio.  It was just too darn cold to get creative and sling paint.  So, I am pulling this colorful painting out and posting.  I wanted the canvas to be bold, colorful and full of energy.  This painting is hanging at the studio, and is for sale.  Contact  Kay  with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at this blog, and stay warm!  It's cold in Dallas!  Kay

Vying For Position 11" x 14" Oil on Linen Contemporary Equine Painting This painting is completed after starting it months ago, and putting it aside when I got frustrated with the painting surface.  I used a fine linen, and it didn't have enough tooth or texture.  So I put it away and decided to pull it out earlier this month.  I have been working on cleaning up my work station at the studio, and pulled several painting out that are needing some attention.  Even though this is on a small canvas, I wanted to keep the brush strokes loose, colorful and energetic.  Today is day 25 in the  30 Painting in 30 Days Challenge .  Thanks for looking at this blog...if you have any questions or comments, contact Kay .  KMW

Spirit of the Race 30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Spirited Horse Painting This painting was inspired by a photograph that I took at the Lone Star Race Track in Grand Prairie, Texas. It was a very warm and sunny day, and all of the jockeys in colorful jerseys really caught my eye. There were seven horses out of the gate on this race, but I decided to focus on two horses for this painting. I had the starting gates painted in, but decided that the background needed to leave more to the imagination of the viewer's eye. I did not want to give away too much information. So, I focused on the horses and the energy on the track. I used wide brushes, oil pastels sticks and the palette knife. Close-up. This painting is too wet to move off the easel. I will take a better photograph of it in natural light once it dries. Thanks for looking at my art.....Kay at 214-532-0325

Finish Line is a 16" x 16" Oil Painting...Sold. But I had to post it since it is the first Saturday in May....the Kentucky Derby runs today! It is always a fun time to watch....especially all the traditions that go along with the derby. I have the Kentucky Derby on my bucket list...I hope to get there sometime! Anyway, I posted this painting because of the day, and I hope the race is fun, exciting, colorful and memorable. Have a great day....Kay

The Inside Track Oil on Canvas 24" x 30" I finished this painting. Normally I paint odd numbers of objects or subject matter in my paintings, but four horses seemed to work for me on this canvas. I did have some horses in the background at one time, but decided to blurr the background completely. Initially I had the starting stalls in the background with roof and sky painted in, but I changed my plans. The horse with the green blinker on the inside track is in the lead. This painting conveys the energy, excitement, and competitiveness of the horse race. This painting will be for sale once it dries and placed up at The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas. Thanks for viewing this blog. Please contact me if you are interested in this painting that is fresh off the easel! Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com .
