" Sunshine on My Mind " ©2022 Niki Gulley 24" x 12" textured mixed media painting on canvas I saw these cheerful sunflowers planted in my neighborhood every time I got in my car to ran errands  and they were so bright and colorful, I just had to paint them! So this week, I dragged my body out of bed at 5 a.m. to capture them at sunrise before our Texas heat reached 100 degrees. While not normally an early riser, it was well worth it to bask in their glory while I was painting. I hope you, too, can enjoy their sunshine and start your day with a smile.     "Garden Glory" ©2022 Niki Gulley 24" x 20" Textured oil painting on 1" Cradled Board with the painting continuing around the edges  After several months of 90 to 100 degree temperatures, I have been relishing the cool mornings and highs in the 80s. Once more my backyard was calling me to set up my easel and capture all of our hard-earned efforts. My hours of weeding, watering, pruning and planting all paid off and I have thoroughly enjoyed our colorful bounty of blooms! From beautiful, tangled Russian sage, to vibrant red and yellow cannas, to cheerful sunflowers that blossomed all summer long, our garden's symphony lifted our spirits daily.  For more details on my palette knife floral paintings, please e-mail  Niki Gulley.   “Sunny Dreams" ©2022 Niki Gulley 24" x 48" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. Set beneath a glowing sky on a beautiful summer evening with the sunflowers in full bloom, you can just make out the stone farmhouse in the distance against a backdrop of purple mountains surrounding the plain. Creating almost a patchwork with the sunflowers and their leaves, unexpected pops of red and purple peek out creating a rhythm and energy to the foreground. Perky, circular faces smile back at you and I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene.   "Sunny Celebration" ©2021 Niki Gulley 30" x 48" textured oil painting Sunny Celebration is inspired from the beautiful sunflower fields we visited in Provence, France. The flowers seemed to stretch forever and the color explosion was out of this world! Back in my studio, I worked from a combination of photos, on-site sketches and memories. Painting the sunflowers full-sized in the foreground helps to bring them to life and hopefully transport you to this happy location. Including cheerful poppies in vivid reds and surprising pops of color keeps your eye moving throughout the scene, seeing new things each time you look at it, and adds to the joyful feeling. *** "Sunny Celebration" is available through: The Statton Gallery 137 Spring Street Eureka Springs, AR 72632 stattongallery.com *** For more details on my other palette knife sunflower paintings, please e-mail  Niki Gulley.                     "Mountains of Color II" ©2021 Niki Gulley 20" x 10" textured oil painting on canvas On a recent trip to New Mexico, we headed towards Ghost Ranch and came across these wild sunflowers blooming alongside the road. Spreading their sunshine and reaching tall towards the light, their smiling faces filled me with cheer and I just had to paint them. Set beneath a cumulus filled sky and the mountainous backdrop, I arranged this composition vertically to add to the uplifting feeling that the sunflowers elicited. "Sunny Refrain" ©2021 Niki Gulley 9" x 12" textured oil painting on canvas panel Painted on location while we were visiting Alsace, France, these perky sunflowers added so much joy to the lush valley. Grapevines planted in repetitious, rhythmic rows ebb and flow over the gentle curving hills as they lead your eye to the old stone church in the distance and you can almost hear their bells ring out. While I began this one outside, you can see the dramatic clouds that started to roll in and and my luck ran out as the rain hit. Fortunately there was still a view undercover and I was able to finish it in the front seat of our rental car. Good thing I didn't spill any paint!
