Artists Of Texas Contemporary Paintings and Art

Winter's Gold 16x20 oil on gallery wrapped canvas This painting was based on a scene from the Mineral Wells State Park. We went for a hike and this is one of the lovely scenes along the way. I loved the  contrast of the water in the creek and the warm winter grasses .  To purchase or see more http://www.sherijonesart.com Sheri@sherijonesart.com http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com.                                                                         Grateful Days 16x12 oil on canvas I'm feeling grateful for the simple things, like our lake views and beautiful fall colors. This sunrise was viewed on one of our early morning fishing trips. This is one of my husbands favorite spots. Happy Thanksgiving! Hot Summer Night 8x10 oil on linen Have you ever spent a summer day dreaming of a way to cool off? We did and spent the evening cruising the lake hoping for a cool breeze.   The bonus was this spectacular sunset. Did I push the colors a bit?  Maybe, but if you look long and hard enough the color is there!  To purchase or see more http://www.sherijonesart.com Sheri@sherijonesart.com http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com. Nature Center Garden 9x12 oil on linen panel I joined friends and fellow artist to paint at a local nature center recently.  It was a cold morning, but warmed up quickly.  The warm sunshine and colors of the garden made for a great morning.                                                                    It's in the Shadows 14x11 oil on linen I'm pleased to say this is my third painting that has been selected to show at Dutch Art Gallery during their fall show "All You Need is Love" . The show opens Saturday, December 4th. Stayed tuned for reception information.   I love it when I am being creative, that's the basic fact about me. I love taking photos, just like I love taking long walks through my neighborhood in Granbury, I must remember that these things bring me joy. I think, how can I make the most ordinary subject look interesting, think, how much more I can bring to a scene.  In this painting the warm morning light made the corner of this house come to life. The shadows are a great contrast with interest...

Fall Festival of Flowers 7x14 oil on canvas I painted this on my patio recently.  When I started it, the plants were all in the shade.  I focused on the shapes and colors.  By the time I was an hour into it, the sun popped out and produced strong shadows and light.  That is the best part of plein air painting. Things change moment by moment creating spontaneous opportunities.  To purchase or see more http://www.sherijonesart.com Sheri@sherijonesart.com  Thank you for viewing my art. Sheri Jones

Marc's View II 36x48 oil on gallery wrapped canvas Sold This was a commission painting I created of the owner's view of Lake Granbury. It was a challenge to work so large, but also so fun. I worked from a photo taken from their front deck. I've included a picture of the proud new owners. Bougainvillea 10x8 oil on linen panel Sold I created this during the Hidden Garden tour this past weekend. It sold right off the easel. I love it that happens.  The house I painted at was absolutely beautiful and highlighted with these huge pots of bougainvillea.  They were 40 years old and were glowing in the afternoon sun.  The owners move them inside the garage during the winter.  That's the only way to survive and get so large.   To purchase or see more http://www.sherijonesart.com Sheri@sherijonesart.com http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com. First Earth Farm Sunflowers 9x12 oil on linen panel I had the opportunity to join 8 other plein air painters at First Earth Farm in Bluff Dale yesterday.  There were paintings at every turn.  I was naturally drawn to this scene filled with color.  This is a working farm on the Paluxy river. We painted and then shopped for farm fresh and canned foods. It was a delightful day.   To purchase or see more http://www.sherijonesart.com Sheri@sherijonesart.com http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com.                                                                         Warm Hints 16x20 oil on wood cradle board I created this after doing a series of small studies exploring new color combinations. I love the warm tones against the cooler colors of the sky and creek water.  This is filled with texture. It is based on a small creek in the town of Glen Rose, Texas. It's in the Shadow 14x11 oil on linen  I spied this house on my morning walk. It was the array of colors in the shadow that attracted me to paint this scene.  I've studied this green house for years knowing there was a painting in there somewhere.  The soft pink crape myrtles and roses are a nice contract to the soft greens.  To purchase or see more http://www.sherijonesart.com Sheri@sherijonesart.com http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com. Koi Pond 9x12 oil on linen panel I met up with 5 artist friends at the Chandor Gardens in Weatherford. It was a joyful morning painting with friends.  I let my blouse inspire the color of the water in my painting. There were reflections of the cloud indicating a soft blue. To keep algae down they paint the base of the pond black and dye the water.  To purchase or see more http://www.sherijonesart.com Sheri@sherijonesart.com http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com.                                                                         Early Birds 11x14 oil on gallery wrapped canvas These fisherman were out early and taking advantage of the opportunity to catch the big one.  In the old adage "Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in the morning sailor's warning".   Jesus said, When in evening, ye say, it will be fair weather: For the sky is red. And in the morning, it will be foul weather today; for the sky is red and lowering.
