"Exchange and Main"

"Exchange and Main" Copyright 2017 Irma Ward Oil 30" x 30" A little bit here and a little bit there…like the setting sun, slowly the landscape changes and we hardly notice.  Our past gradually slips away until one day we are caught looking backwards and trying to piece it together in our minds.  Places we remember and things we have done are important threads in the fabric of life.  Whether it is a building, automobile, or other relic, we cannot eradicate those things that tell our story.  Preservation, restoration, and imagery are keys to linking the present to the past.  I hope this scene brings up happy memories for you.

SOLD ~ Warm Thoughts Geraniums and a North Texas Workshop by Nancy Medina

Warm Thoughts Red Geraniums by Nancy Medina SOLD 16X12 Oil on Archival Panel Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Warm Thoughts Red Geraniums is the newest small work on the easel in Flower Mound Studio, a break (or procrastination tool) from the 60 inch canvas filling up half my studio space today! I had a bit of a dilemma this afternoon, when I noticed the boss had fallen asleep right in the middle of my easel. See actual photo evidence of the above infraction on my art blog today. Tomorrow I go on a shopping spree for fresh flowers for my 3 day workshop in North Texas this weekend. I have only one seat left, so don't delay - you can read how to register and more here! Warm Thoughts on the easel!

SOLD ~ Dream Sunflowers by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Dream a Dream Sunflowers by Nancy Medina SOLD 11X14 Oil on Linen Panel Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Follow Me on Facebook I am still waking up each morning, 2 weeks after quitting my 6-figure corporate job, living a life in between. Between the time when I should have put on my office clothes, braved the Dallas traffic, and spent my day in a glass building and instead am now waking up with snoring pugs curled around me, the sunshine streaming in, and knowing that my day will be filled with art, packing and shipping paintings, ordering paints, cleaning brushes, and moving through a life filled with color.  I'm walking into the wilds away from the corporate jungle,  with my eyes wide open, and hoping for the best. I remember the moment when I was a senior in high school, when my parents asked me what I really wanted to be when I grew up. I told them I wanted to be an artist. We were standing ou...

Santa Fe Art Trek w/ Niki Gulley - Ghost Ranch

SANTA FE ART TREK:  Day 1, morning location - Ghost Ranch, New Mexico 12" x 9" pastel by Niki Gulley On the first day of our Santa Fe Plein-Air Painting and Photography Workshop, we headed to the gorgeous hills where Georgia O'Keefe resided, now understanding fully why she chose to live there. The rock formations were beautiful, the desert scenery had a rugged, uninhabited wild west feel, and the clouds were spectacular. I chose this location for my pastel demo, being attracted to the light on the distant mountain peaks, and the bushy sagebrush in the foreground.  I quickly drew my major shapes, then working with the sides of my pastels, blocked in my darks and simplified the scene into larger color passages. Tweaking the composition as I went so everything flowed together and kept your eye moving around the painting, I started developing my focal area in the distance, establishing more details in the cracks and crevices and accentuating the dramatic lights ...

White Rock Lake oil painting by Niki Gulley

9" x 12" oil painting by Niki Gulley at White Rock Lake I painted this small oil painting at White Rock Lake earlier this week, getting ready for my Plein Air Workshop this weekend. It was a perfect morning – blue skies and a gentle breeze, with an ideal temperature. I was attracted to the multi-colored sailboats and the interesting pattern they formed. With so many boats, I sketched out my composition and then I had to paint very quickly before the light changed – a fun challenge and an enjoyable, peaceful morning. White Rock Lake painting with Niki Gulley

"Bridge to Tomorrow" ©2011 Niki Gulley 12" x 24" textured oil painting On a peaceful autumn day last fall, I went out to White Rock Lake and captured this beautiful sunset behind the Dallas skyline. I liked the intricacy of the bridge and how it crossed through the composition, connecting the left and the right sides. The sunlight was peaking through the ironwork and various plants in the foreground were back lit, while the water's surface was shimmering from the low light, spreading vivid colors in all directions. A perfect ending to the day! *** Please join me at the  Dallas Arboretum and White Rock Lake this weekend for a 2-day painting workshop .  I only have two spots left, so e-mail at   Niki@NikiGulley.com  for more information and to register or visit  nikigulley.com/?page_id=13 . *** To see more of my contemporary landscape paintings and local Dallas scenes, visit my website at NikiGulley.com .
