The Space Between Mark Nesmith Oil on Canvas 6" x 6" 2016 Click  here  to buy this painting. I'm still dreaming of spring and the lake. This is another recent painting inspired by my memories of vacationing at Lake Mineral Wells with my kids. We stayed in one of the little screened cabins at the waters edge. Across the inlet from us was an outcropping of trees and boulders, and in the distance a small island set against the distant shore. The mornings were bathed in a brilliant bright and warm light. I really need to get back there again soon! This is an 6" x 6" oil painting on 1 1/2" deep gallery wrapped canvas. The sides are finished in black and the canvas comes wired and ready to hang.

“Sun Salutations" ©2016 Niki Gulley 30" x 48" textured mixed media painting on wrap around canvas Sun Salutations is inspired from one of the amazing locations we take our students to on our Provence Art Trek. We actually set up our easels in this gorgeous lavender and sunflower field, where the flowers seem to stretch forever and the color and aroma explosion are out of this world! Back in my studio, I worked from a combination of photos, on-site sketches and memories.  Painting the sunflowers full-sized in the foreground helps to bring them to life and hopefully transport you to this beautiful location. Contrasting the complimentary colored lavender field in the distance draws your eye to the focal point, while repeating surprising pops of vivid color keeps your eye moving throughout the scene and adds to the joyful feeling.  If you'd like more information or a brochure on one of our upcoming Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshops, ...

When we were packing up to move I stumbled upon this forgotten beach painting I started 4 or 5 years ago. I wasn't happy with it and never finished it but I kept it around thinking I'd get back to it someday. A while back I starting playing around on it again. After two or three afternoons at the easel, I'm finally happy with it. The sky now casts a warm, radiant glow and I think I've managed to catch a bit of the calm rhythm of the waves I feel when sunrise wakes the coast. This painting really has me dreaming of warmer weather and salty breezes. Sometimes digging up the past yields new treasure. This was a larger painting on Richeson board and I decided to cut it down and make two from it. This is one half. I used a white Richeson board and threw my acrylics onto the surface to float and make shapes. Then I dried it and began to assess the 'damage'. I began with a loose drawing of coconuts and palm fronds, and as the painting progressed it became more and more abstract. I love it when the painting governs the artist, the hard part is not fighting it in the process and having fun with it.
