Missed The Boat 12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel Contemporary Palette Knife Painting The rusty old dingy is tied up to a rock on the shore.  The rocks were painted with a palette knife, so they are textural with the water washing up over them.  This painting is framed in a handsome dark mahogany moulding.  My inspiration for this painting was a dingy tied up in a small fishing village in Maine.  It caught my eye---and I had to paint it!  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Contact  Kay  for purchasing info.  KMW

6x6 Oil & Wax on Panel This is a continuation of my Food Dance series.  With Spring here, I'm always reminded of how good asparagus is to add to a menu.  It tastes delicious and is beautiful with its many shades of green. Roasted Asparagus Place asparagus, that has been drizzled with olive oil, in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet.  Sprinkle with salt and pepper and place in a 400 degree oven for about 20 minutes.    It's healthy, tastes good and so easy to prepare.

"Texas Pride II"  ©2015 Niki Gulley 20" x 30" textured oil painting on canvas I painted these Texas bluebonnets and with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve depth and texture. The resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and energy. In this wildflower series, I've painted the scene around the edges of the canvas on 1 and 1/2" deep stretcher bars so that the painting can be hung without a frame for a contemporary look. Or, I also have a beautiful espresso floater frame where you can still see the painted edges of the canvas if you prefer framed artwork. Resurrected Landscape by Mark Nesmith Oil on Canvas 12" x 24" 2016 Click  here  to purchase this painting. This painting is a resurrection of sorts. A little more than a year ago we used to live in Country Village Apartments on Fannett Road just outside Beaumont, TX. The apartments aren't much and they're pretty old, but they are situated on a lot of land which made them ideal for dogs. There are fields and woods and plenty of nice views, but what really stands out about the place is the little horseshoe shaped pond lined with pines. For some unknown reason they call it Cedar Lake. I'd often take walks there in the morning and evening and loved the unique combination of the shape of the pond, the ring of pines along the narrow bank, and the flickering reflections on the water. " Spring’s Glory,"  Texas Hill Country  ©2016 Niki Gulley  36” x 60” textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas “Spring’s Glory” was inspired by a trip to the Texas Hill Country. The spring conditions were perfect, and the bluebonnets were amazing! While we were near Fredericksburg, we took a scenic drive along the Willow City Look and as we approached the top of a hill about half way around, we were greeted by this gorgeous view of the rolling hills and bluebonnets in full bloom. Then, to top it off the sun was setting in the distance casting its golden glow and backlighting the wildflowers. I had to capture the magical moment, enhancing the kaleidoscope of colors in the sky and along the ground. Arranging clouds, the road and rows of bluebonnets in rhythmic sweeping shapes to create a harmonious landscape that flows with light, texture and color, and suggest a feeling of optimism about what’s to come. Cuban Mariachi by Bruce Bingham 12 x 9 oil on museum board This was a painting I started in Cuba. I seem to paint alot of musicians because I'm attracted to the energy and the feeling of celebration. They move like crazy and eventually leave. I know, you'd like I'd catch on. They left in about 15 minutes and I didn't even get a photo of them! So I decided to carry on with the background. After about 20 minutes they closed the curtain to the arcade! Plein air, French for outdoors, has it's own special challenges. That's why I named this post: Joie de peindre en plein air! My friend Brenda Boylan who went on the trip too Cuba too painted this same scene from the other side of the arcade.
