Meet the Artist | Rebecca Zook | Earth & Sky Solo Show

Come and visit fine art painter Rebecca Zook on Saturday, February 4th from 9am to noon in the BRIT gallery located at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens featuring her Earth & Sky solo show. EARTH & SKY Featuring the clouds and grasses of Texas | Fine Art Paintings by Rebecca Zook BRIT (Botanical Research Institute of Texas) | 1700 University Drive | Ft. Worth, TX 76107 Peace. Beauty. Light. Three aspects that Texas artist Rebecca Zook consciously incorporates into her  acrylic paintings. As a native Texan, she grew up with an appreciation of the   unique beauty that Texas offers. Rebecca’s connection with nature is something that’s remained a part of her throughout her life and this love of the landscape   is expressed through each brushstroke.   “I’m drawn to Texas’ plentiful native grasses in particular. Watching the wind weave patterns through them and the gentle swaying provide me with a much needed calm. I stand among them and am...

New "Sky High" Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Sky High” ©2017 Niki Gulley 48" x 24” textured oil painting on wrap around canvas In this painting, I wanted you to you to experience the joy of looking up into the treetops – just like you did when you were a kid. Lying on the ground, not a care in the world, you gaze in wonderment as the clouds drift by overhead. To accentuate that feeling, I chose this tall vertical canvas, giving you a sense of scale and perspective. Working with warm yellows, reds and greens and utilizing thick chunky sweeping strokes add to that childlike whimsy and I hope you are transported back to a happy, carefree time and place. For more information on my textured palette knife birch and aspen tree oil paintings, please e-mail  Niki Gulley. Or, visit  NikiGulley.com  to see more of my contemporary landscape paintings.

Jimmy Longacre_subjective realist landscape paintings_BEING WILLING TO FLOP

HEY, I'M BACK!   I've spent the past few months doing the almost unthinkable: abstaining from social media!  I felt it was time to take account of what I was doing.  In the words of an old song from my youth,  "I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in."   (Kenny Rogers and the Fifth Dimension.  If you remember that one, our memory traces the same years.)  Anyway, as fun and helpful as it may be to post and hear from you, I wanted to take time to just play and experiment with my painting. The cycle of painting and growing as a painter requires an occasional healthy dose of "free-forming it".  Time to play with no one looking over your shoulder.  Experimenting with ideas,  following interests without worrying about where they're leading, and  being willing to flop .  That's where the fun and growth really kick in.  I may write more about that in coming posts, but for now I'll show you some th...

Traveling Light by Bruce Bingham

I started off the New Year with a trip to Sedona, AZ.  It was my first visit to the area and I was amazed by the scenery.  It was a time to relax with family but I still painted five little studies.  I wanted to travel light so I took a limited palette of water soluble oils for easy clean up. Sedona Red by Bruce Bingham oil  6 x8 $175 click here It's true they aren't as buttery and smooth as regular oil paints but I found that using a medium, fast drying linseed oil, intended for them made them very workable.  IMHO it's best to just load your brush and paint pretty thickly from the beginning, working a little medium into your pile of paint to find the consistency you like. Sedona Yellow by Bruce Bingham oil  6x8 $175 click here The colors don't have the transparency of some traditional oil colors and if you're like me and often use transparents first you'll miss that.  And of course g...

New "Dreams Ahead" Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

"Dreams Ahead" ©2017 by Niki Gulley  30" x 40" original textured oil painting Enjoying the melodic tinkling of the aspen leaves rustling in the breeze, the trickling sounds of the babbling brook at our backs, and the beauty of fall ablaze with color, I felt invigorated as I began painting this aspen forest. The setting was so peaceful and rejuvenating that I wanted to communicate that joyful feeling of discovery. Filling the canvas with energetic staccato strokes and bold colors, in addition to gently arching the tree trunks reaching towards the sky, add to that uplifting feeling. And then just a sliver of the trail cutting through the forest, suggests the excitement of the journey that is to come. Beginner Painting Lesson by artist Pat Meyer

8 x 10 oil on panel contact artist to purchase $150 Yesterday was beginner class 101.  it is always hard to try something new and get it.  The first time to play the piano my fingers went to all the wrong keys and it was so frustrating.  Dedicating myself to practice daily started giving me the confidence to move on to actually play the piano but it was after much concentrated practice.  When starting to paint it all seems so weird but it you stay at it for a period of time you will see great improvement.  When looking back over the years at paintings that were done many times you see your improvement.   www.PatMeyer-artist.com Signature Member Artist of Texas, Oil Painters of America, American Impressionistic Society

Farewell by Kay Wyne

Farewell  30" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Floral Still Life This palette knife painting is drying in the studio.  The paint was applied in layers with a knife, making the paint very thick and textural.  These flowers have subtle color changes, as I mixed and mixed piles of paint before I began this painting.  There is an underpainting...and some turquoise, red, and peach are peaking through to give it some unexpected pops of color.  Thanks for looking at this blog...Contact  Kay Wyne  for more information on this painting.  Thanks, KMW

Just Bee, by Melissa A. Torres, 3x3 mixed media on canvas

I have been taking a break from my traditional painting to experiment with something that has been used by a friend of mine for some time. Resin. At first I was terrified of it. I watched countless Youtube videos and read numerous "How to" articles online. I finally decided, "What do I have to lose." I found out I love it! It is messy at times, and can be unforgiving. Any little hair or dust can ruin your final product, but guess what??? You can sand it and add another layer, giving you another try to achieve perfection.  "Just Bee" is my third piece I completed using resin.  The painting was created using acrylic paints, Isopropyl alcohol, and micas.  Several layers of resin were poured instead of my usual varnishing technique. I love how the resin gives a glassy look and feel to the work. This painting is available. View other available works at my  Shop . www.melissaatorresart.com

Winter Aspen Tree Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

“Climbing Trees” ©2017 Niki Gulley 40” x 30” oil on canvas Growing up in the midwest, I loved the first snowfall of the year when everything would get a beautiful dusting of pristine white powder, including even the tiniest of branches in the treetops above. If you caught that moment early enough in the morning before anything had disturbed the intricate frosted web, it was just magical. Then the sun would start rising and peeking through the limbs, and everything would sparkle like diamonds. In Climbing Trees, I wanted to capture that beautiful moment when the sunlight dances through the icing on the treetops and you can feel yourself looking up in wonderment just like you did when you were a kid. *** E-mail -  Niki Gulley for more information on Climbing Trees. Any little hair or dust can ruin your final product, but guess what??? The Itch by Texas Artist Darla McDowell

8x8 Inches Oil on Linen Panel $200 Click here to purchase via PayPal I've painted this little calf before and will likely paint him again. It's funny how a photo can take you back to a certain moment in time, and this one does that for me. This is another painting from last week. Our windy, gray weather proves challenging for properly photographing wet paintings, so I've gotten behind. I do, however, try to post quick snapshots on Instagram. If you're interested, please feel free to follow me there. My ID is d_mcdowell. Have a great day! Happy painting!

Treetop Rascals..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This pastel is done on black velour paper.  I rarely use black paper, although the drama of it speaks for itself.  However, it is extremely difficult to get the lights and darks to read on this surface, especially with VELOUR PAPER. The subject is of Lorikeets or as they are called in Australia, LORRIES..  Little imps which fly all over the eastern regions of Australia and are forever present in the treetops, calling to one another. The colors are truly amazing! I hope I did them justice here. This pastel is unframed and measures 9" x 15". $155 plus S/H Prints of this image are available through Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/treetop-rascals-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae conducts workshops and demonstrations of her many techniques . She uses all media. Please contact her through this blog, or via her website at: www.raeandrews.com

New "Looking Up II" Aspen Tree painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Looking Up II" ©2017 Niki Gulley 24" x 12" textured oil on canvas In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. I chose vibrant, cheerful yellows and golds contrasted against a blue sky with the clouds drifting so that as you gaze overhead, you get the feeling of not having a care in the world. One large trunk in the foreground guides you and gives you a sense of size and perspective, while leading your eye upward. Arranging the aspens in a circular pattern heightened by thick, curving paint strokes, all add to that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery.  E-mail  Niki Gulley  for more information on her textured aspen and birch oil paintings.  Visit  NikiGulley.com  to see more of her contemporary impressionistic palette knife landscape paintings.
