Valentine 17 by artist Pat Meyer

16 x 20 oil on linen panel Pat@Meyer.net Just entered my painting to a competition.  Every time I do this it makes me think will the judges like my painting, is it good enough to get in, did it photograph correctly and so many other factors.  The other night the academy awards were on TV and watching all the people the same fear was in their eyes.  Everyone tries to put on a happy face but you know they are all so nervous to win.  The same thing happens when you put yourself out there for competition.  You hope just to be chosen and put on the wall with all the other great artist. www.PatMeyer-artist.com Signature Artist of Texas, Oil Painters of America, American Impressionistic Society

Winter Hill by Dawna Hasara

Winter Hill 16" H x 20" W Watercolor on paper There is an iconic line of crepe myrtle trees on a ridge overlooking peaceful rural hills in the historic town of Montgomery TX. I've been admiring the ever-changing look of this scene for several years but I fear for its existence in the near future because of ongoing, encroaching growth and construction in the area. Texas is beautiful - let's keep it that way y'all! For more info or to contact me, please click on the title link to go to my website.

Sunrise at Robyn's by Dawna Hasara

Sunrise at Robyn's 12" H x 16" W Watercolor on paper My friend Robyn and her family built a beautiful country home on family owned property in the piney woods NW of Houston. New Tuscany Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

"Peaceful Pursuit," Tuscany ©2017 Niki Gulley  30" x 48” textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas This painting is inspired from a trip to Tuscany we took a few years ago when my husband, who is a professional photographer, and I spent about a week scouring every inch of the countryside for the best poppy fields and views. I was particularly drawn to this peaceful scene, even if the poppies weren’t as prolific as in other fields. I loved the calming, sweeping shapes of the hills and the vibrant reds contrasting against the softer grasses and white wildflowers. The road beckons you back to the stone farmhouse in the distance, while dramatic voluminous clouds dance across the sky, mimicking the foreground shapes and creating a sense of harmony. Repeating colors throughout, I love how the Impressionists used vibrant hues to add to the mood of a scene and create flow, so I brought my contemporary approach with broad strokes and thick texture to their traditions. I...

Flower Power by Kay Wyne

Flower Power 36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Floral Painting Finished!  This painting is drying in the studio...once I started this painting, I could not stop.  After visiting the Dallas Arboretum this week, I was so impressed and inspired with the vibrant colors of the tulips, that I could not resist painting them.  I decided that I needed to tone my canvas with a diluted Permanent Rose, then I was ready to start drawing on the canvas.  I used raw umber, olive green and violet to place the flowers and lay-out my road map. I started with my transparent oils and put a couple of layers on, getting my dioxazine violet,  magenta, olive green, and permanent rose.  The background fades and is somewhat out of focus to create some distance on the canvas.  I mixed up about six different piles of greens, starting with sap, olive, and adding cad yellow and ice blue to get a good range of shades.  I put in the jonquils last...

Coats Road Creek 11x14 oil on canvas We have been blessed with warm temperatures lately. I am trying to take advantage of this and get out on location to paint. Local Terrain, New Contemporary Landscape Painting by Sheri Jones

Local Terrain 9x12 on canvas This was painted on location in Granbury. It is on the land of a rural farm and has horses, cows and donkeys.  My goal on this day was to paint cows, but they did not make an appearance. So I scratched that idea and focused on the beautiful landscape. It's been great here with warm temperatures and soft breezes.   This is available for purchase. Email me for more info. Bellville Cowboys by Dawna Hasara

Bellville Cowboys 10" H x 14" W Watercolor on paper While vending at a recent market day in Bellville, TX I noticed these three young boys sitting on one of the wrought iron benches that line the square snacking on some of delicious kettle corn you can buy there. When I asked if I could take their picture, the little guy on the left sat up straight and gave me a big smile. I just love their expressions and vibe. Jimmy Longacre_subjective realist landscape paintings_WHAT'S IT ABOUT?

Knowing what I'm trying to accomplish in a painting is primary for guiding every other decision I'll have to make in creating a composition.   If I'm simply beguiled by an attractive "thing" (tree, barn, creek, whatever…), I'll wind up taking dictation from that thing without thinking through how I can compose it so that it will emphasize what I find beautiful about the scene.  That, for me, is the fun and satisfaction in painting. Almost without exception, composing requires stopping to think about what I want to say and what I have to work with.   It's rare that I find something that's ready to paint just as it is.  For instance, I may try several ideas for cropping the scene and identifying the focal center.  I may then want to remove unrelated clutter, rearrange what's there for better size and balance relationships, or any number of other things that I feel will give my primary concept emphasis.  I find that my best paintings are about on...

Fun Times by artist Pat Meyer

5 x 7 oil on linen 9 x 12 oil on linen contact artist to purchase Pat@Meyer.net This last week I just wanted to play around with back ground textures and colors against my composition.  To be able to achieve a nice juicy look to the back grounds meanwhile tying them into the painting themselves.  It may look easy but you have to think out each stroke and color before applying to the canvas. www.PatMeyer-artist.com Signature Member Artist of Texas, Oil Painters of America, American Impressionistic Society

Sunday evening I did a demo at the Austin Pets Alive's annual fund raiser. It's a wonderful cause. I painted a pet portrait while I was there and people bought tickets for the drawing to win a portrait of their own pet. It was lots of fun and we were able to raise 600$ to help. Thank you to all the people who bought drawing tickets prior to the event and also during the party. Still Waiting by Suzy Pal Powell

This old car is close to Hereford, TX. I saw it months ago on the way to a funeral and couldn't stop.  So the next time I went, I kept watching for it so I could stop and get photos.  It had a road down to it, so I went down and got some photos.  The train started squeaking and barely moving, and I decided I needed to get back on the highway since I was alone. It was a little spooky! I found out later, one of my students in Amarillo owns this car! I can't believe it just sits there all alone...for years it looks like.  I love the look of it with the train and the graffiti. It is 22x28 framed.
