"Visions of Blue," Texas Hill Country  ©2017 Niki Gulley SOLD •  24" x 12" textured oil painting Just Sold!  I painted these Texas Bluebonnets and wildflowers with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve depth and texture. The resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and energy. In this vertical wildflower series, I've framed the paintings in espresso floater frames so that you can still see the textured oil paint continuing around the edges of the canvas. I just finished this one, which I began yesterday afternoon.  It is on a mystery paper I had in my file drawer so don't ask what it is..:((  It is was a cream sanded paper though however not one I was familiar with. The size of this image is 19.5" x 25.5 " unframed. My reference was a lily pond photo I took while in France last May. The fish I actually made up. The magically appeared so voila! “Looking Up II" ©2017 Niki Gulley 24" x 12" textured oil on canvas In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. I chose vibrant, cheerful yellows and golds contrasted against a blue sky with the clouds drifting so that as you gaze overhead, you get the feeling of not having a care in the world. One large trunk in the foreground guides you and gives you a sense of size and perspective, while leading your eye upward. This one is similar to the landscapes I have posted before. Had a great time doctoring colors in Photoshop. But.. now that program seems to have died on me!! Oh woe! I desperately need my Photoshop. Looks like I have to call my computer guru.. Still having fun with shapes.  With this project I worked on a 12 x 8 sheet of paper and when complete I divided it into four 6 x 4 pieces to use as postcards.  I would love to get art in the mail!  Wouldn't you?

September Harvest-Hay Bales 9x12 oil on canvas panel I noticed fresh hay bales out in fields I drive by and knew the time was right to get outside and paint.  I mentioned to my friend Linda Miller I wanted to paint hay bales and she found us a great location. The weather was cool and we were on an isolated street with hardly any traffic.  We did have to get out of the middle of the road when a tractor drove by.  This is available for purchase. “Cultivating Aromas” ©2017 Niki Gulley SOLD •  20” x 30” acrylic on canvas Just sold!  The lavender fields in Provence are incredible – perfectly manicured rows and rows of an explosion of violet as far as the eye can see. Rippling purple rows draw your eye to the lone stone farmhouse in the distance while clouds drift by also in rhythmic waves, both creating a flowing harmony. Perspective lines converge, leading you to this joyful spot and I hope you can smell the amazing aromas and feel your spirits lifted while gazing into this scene!
