Lying on the ground, not a care in the world, you gaze in wonderment as the clouds drift by. Bridge Garden 9x12 oil on canvas I created this at the Botanical Gardens in Ft. Worth recently.  I don't have a lot of time, so this was a spontaneous reaction. “Chit Chat" ©2018 Niki Gulley 30" x 48" textured oil painting Shimmering in golden light, this backlit grove of aspen trees reaches tall, leaning left and then right towards the sun as it grew. The peeling trunks almost seem to move, even chatting with one another. A few trees weren't so lucky and lay fallen at their feet, while the whole scene is filled with color, texture and movement to suggest the power of nature and its ability to enhance your spirit. “Aqua Dreams” ©2018 Niki Gulley SOLD •  36” x 60” textured oil on canvas Just Sold!  When we arrived at this tranquil spot, the early morning light was very cool in color, but as the sun began to rise from the horizon, it shone this beautiful warm light that shimmered on the water’s surface and cast its hope of what was to come from the brand new day. I remember the peacefulness I felt in that moment, and a sense that anything was possible. In Aqua Dreams, by showing the contrast in the cool aqua/blues in the foreground waters against the warm golden glow on the distant pond’s edge, I wanted to share that feeling of hope and promise communicated by nature. Quince Design 12x16 oil on canvas This blooming bush is one of the first burst of color in the spring time.  I spied these at the Botanical Gardens in Ft.  Worth. I painted on location and gathered reference photos for studio paintings.  I create my paintings in layers and the final is with the palette knife. "April's Palette II," Texas Hill Country  ©2018 Niki Gulley SOLD  • 12" x 18" textured oil painting Just Sold!  Recently we loaded up the car and headed south to visit the Texas Hill Country to see the wildflowers in bloom. While not as prolific as some years, the thick patches we found did not disappoint. It's so exciting to see a massive carpet of blue across our usually green hills. I love how the bluebonnets signal that spring has arrived! For our first stop, I chose this colorful field north of Austin and set my easel up to capture its beauty. I was drawn to not only the vivid wildflowers, but also the gentle hills and this rocky ledge they were perched upon. With some fluffy clouds drifting overhead, it turned out to be a perfect day to paint! I hope you can feel the joy and energy of springtime in Texas. I have been an RN for almost 21 years. Of those 21, 12 were spent working in an Emergency Room. Painting was a way to escape the things that I dealt with and saw. I try to paint something to honor my profession every Nurses Week. This is one of two paintings I did this year. To all nurses, I say "Thank you." "Autumn Serenade"   ©2018 Niki Gulley 36" x 48" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas Shimmering colors of autumn: Aspen, Oak and the forest of trees quiver, their light graceful leaves tremble and quake, silver and gold, scarlet and tangerine, with each light breeze. There is the quiet energy of change coming and vibrant color charges the woods. Crisp fall mountain air, slender trunks cut bright strokes of white against a dazzling kaleidoscope of colors. Staccato strokes and shimmering hues add to the feeling of change in the air and suggest the breeze whistling through the foliage. Sunrise in Style 24x36 oil on gallery wrapped canvas It changed in a drastic shades of orange, pink and blue.  I was amazed at the array of colors in this beautiful morning sky.  It was both a challenge and joy to create on canvas.  I started with a warm base and used the paint brush  to lay in the big shapes.  I quickly grabbed the palette knife and started building texture and warm colors.
