A lot of us have been or are starting to have real anxiety about the multitude of difficulties we are and will be facing because of this crisis. I believe beauty is important right now. “Exploring the Woods" ©2020 Niki Gulley 12" x 18" textured oil painting I painted "Exploring the Woods" on a beautiful fall day at one of my favorite spots near our home. The brilliant gold and tangerine leaves were glowing from the sun backlighting them, and the gnarly tree trunks were forming an intricate web that I just had to capture. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, this landscape is filled with tons of texture, color, movement and energy! “Autumn Journey" ©2020 Niki Gulley 30” x 20" textured oil painting Inspired by a trip to Colorado in the fall, trying to catch the beautiful autumn aspens leaves before they dropped, we just caught the last glimpse of color before an early snowfall hit. The combination of golden leaves set against the vivid blue sky, and the cool snow shadows contrasted against glowing light highlights as the sun cast its warming rays, was a symphony to the eye! "Tuscan Vista" ©2020 Niki Gulley 12" x 16” textured oil painting I painted "Tuscan Vista" from the villa we stay in when my husband and I are leading our Foodie Trek in Italy. The late afternoon light was so beautiful how it cast its golden glow on the landscape and stone farmhouses, and I had to capture it before it was gone. Uplifting poppies frame the foreground as the serpentine roads lead you up over the hills and into the distance. I hope you enjoy the escape to beautiful Tuscany, too, when you gaze at my painting! "Rooted Together" ©2020 Niki Gulley 24" x 12" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas, framed in an espresso floater frame Rooted Together was inspired from a trip we took to Monet’s Gardens outside of Paris. Being a lover of impressionist paintings, I was awestruck standing in the footsteps of one of my favorite painters! The gardens have been maintained immacuately and I could see exactly where he painted his paintings. I’ve always loved påurple irises and was particularly drawn to this view, with the irises large in the foreground and all of the colorful blooms leading up to his house behind them. Painted with thick oil paint and palette knife, this canvas is loaded with texture, surprising pops of color and energy. "Flowing into Spring" ©2020 Niki Gulley 24" x 12" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas, framed in an espresso floater frame I painted this scene from the Dallas Arboretum on location recently when the weather was beautiful and the spring buds were in full bloom. I love tulips being one of the first flowers to announce that winter has officially ended, so I focused on these colorful red and white striped ones in the foreground, which contrast so well against the complimentary green leaves and grasses. I also liked how their height leads you back into the distant flower beds and onto the Degolyer house in the background, so I chose this vertical panorama format to accentuate that feeling.
