                                                                   Running Free 24x18 oil on linen canvas I was inspired to paint this after visiting the Acton Nature Trail with my sisters, and great nieces. Sara and Sadie are both 7 and felt free to run ahead of us. It was on a beautiful winter morning and they were happy to be outside and running free. I use a limited palette of three colors and white. Thalo Red Rose, Cadmium Yellow Light and Phthalo Blue. I really enjoyed find grays in this vibrant mix of strong pigments.      “Fibonacci's Dream" ©2021 Niki Gulley 36” x 36" textured mixed media painting  on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up into the treetops, mesmerized by the scene overhead. I chose uplifting yellows and golds contrasted against a turquoise blue sky with gentle clouds drifting by to lift your spirits. I've arranged the aspens in a spiral pattern so that you have a sense of laying on the ground, surrounded by the forest, connecting with nature and the heavens above.   “Whispers in Time” ©2021 Niki Gulley 30” x 30” textured oil painting Colorado’s celebrated quaking aspen trees stand arrow straight in the valleys and  up and down the hills.  Slim white trunks sing out against the forest background and each leaf provides a sparkling symphony of notes whispering through the mountains. Flames of yellow leaves flicker against autumn’s burning reds  and the deep, cool blue mountain streaked with late light. This painting captures the breathtaking colors of Colorado in the fall, the Aspens at their most beautiful, and the peaceful rustling murmur and musical sigh of the fluttering leaves.                                                                         Sunny Delight 9x12 oil on cradle board Every time I approach a field of sunflowers, my heart skips a beat. It is always a delightful experience. The setting was so peaceful and rejuvenating that I wanted to communicate that joyful feeling of discovery. Filling the canvas with energetic staccato strokes and bold colors, in addition to gently arching the tree trunks reaching towards the sky, add to that uplifting feeling. And then just a sliver of the trail cutting through the forest, suggests the excitement of the journey that is to come.          “Lone Star Blooms" ©2020 Niki Gulley SOLD • 30" x 40" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas Just Sold through the Good Art Company Gallery!  In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of our berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms slightly abstract plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.                                                                    Chasing Sunflowers 11x14 oil on wood panel Chasing Sunflowers was a plein air piece I started in a beautiful field of sunflowers. We set up quickly and got to work. As soon as we started the owner showed up and asked us to leave.  He did say we could finish, so we worked quickly.  When I got home it looked like a hot mess. So I scraped the painting and started over! The landscape around this field was so beautiful.   "Meandering Journey"  © Niki Gulley 16" x 20" textured oil on canvas panel Recently, we visited Santa Fe and to escape the heat we ventured up the Santo de Cristo mountains to cool down amongst the beautiful, refreshing aspen trees. I was drawn to this meandering path leading through the aspens with its dappled light creating such gorgeous shadows. Having fun capturing all of the different textures with palette knife from the lush grasses to the feathery wildflowers to the peeling bark on the aspen trees, I set out to recreate the peace and beauty of this forest. I hope you, too, can feel the serenity of this rejuvenating place and enjoy an uplifting walk in the woods.                                                                         First Light's Glow 12x12 oil on canvas I painted this using a new color palette, introducing a viridian.    It is on the cool side of green. It leans toward the blue so it was useful for mixing greens on the cooler side. I love the effect it gave with this morning sunrise.
