"Soaring Dreams II" ©2020 Niki Gulley textured oil painting on canvas • 34" x 34" I love that feeling of staring up into the treetops and the heavens about, it instills that child-like wonder. That is what I hope my paintings bring to people. Here I used thick,  curving paint strokes adds to that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery. By choosing a palate of gold and red that contrast against a lavender-blue sky with gentle clouds drifting by and arranging  the aspens in a circular pattern to give you a sense of laying on the ground, surrounded by the forest. I have used diagonal leading lines with the tree trunks and limbs, so your eye gazes into the focal point where all of the elements come together. Art Therapy Post 17 Dichotomy 12" x 12" | Acrylic on Panel Lace Hedgehog Cactus Echinocereus reichenbachii The dichotomy of cactuses has always fascinated me. Some of the toughest plants on the planet, they thrive where resources are scarce. Spines scream "don't mess with me". Not everyone sees the beauty inherent in their form. Then comes Spring and with it their undeniable allure. They erupt with vibrant blooms that span the spectrum. In the case of the Lace Cactus, a neon magenta-purple the size of the cactus itself. These short-lived, delicate as lace flowers providing the perfect contrast and the perfect lure for the beetles that pollinate them. I am fortunate that they grow wild in my yard.
